Tailgate question

Just below the bottom edge of the tailgate and just above the bumper on the right side there is a black bracket held in place to two bolts. What is the purpose of the bracket. I was hoping to remove it to add a tailgate LED light.

Thoughts?

I’ve heard it was used at the factory for aligning, as far as removing it, mine was removed the first week I got it. It doesn’t hold onto anything, it’s just a standalone piece and I saved mine in the event it ever becomes an issue.
