Sync 3 update

audio presets change; both in selection method and if you do the firmware update you get more presets.

Would love to update the APIM fiemware but that part is too confusing for me, pretty sure I would find a way to mess it up.

I read through all the posts and I have no issues downloading properly to the USB, but I've tried 3 times now and I can't get the truck to recognize the USB and start the update, or do anything at all for that matter.

I have an early build '17. Anyone else have this issue?

How did you build the drive? What format did you use? Following along on fordowner.com it walks you through building the update drive.

I followed the directions straight from Ford, formatted the thumb drive to exFAT and my folder even matched the Ford screen grab

Hmmm....tried both ports? Truck running? Reset Sync hold the power and forward key down until it reboots. You compared your current Sync version to the updates right? Just reaching here.

Appreciate it - Yea, tried both ports, truck was running and in P. I have the original version from early 17, so I know it needs an update. The only feature I really want is steering wheel control forward to move more than 6 presets - that's the worst driver convenience design ever.

I called my dealer and for $165 they will update it, but it's through the port and I don't trust the dealer and I don't want them to override my tune, or mess up anything else up. I avoid the dealer at all costs, regardless of the make.

@smurfslayer can he update to the latest Sync 3.4 through the standard update some late ‘18s and 19 and 20s can? Or will he need to do the Russian hack to get to 3.4? He’s got an early ‘17 and I think the APIM is different.

I'm only trying to update to 3.0.20204. I can't get 3.4 w/o the hack.

I was told, and pretty sure confirmed from my research on here, that 3.0.2 also gives me the continuous preset feature.

Is that incorrect?

Ok gotcha now. I know they further enhanced presets later on, but not sure about the early releases. Sounded like you were downloading what the site had for your truck, so I was scratching my head. Try another drive?
