So I'm in the middle of my speaker replacement project, and got to the subwoofer. I picked a Kicker 8" speaker that looks like it will fit, but the wiring has me stumped.

The stock woofer has four cables going into it, two positives and two negatives. The new woofer also has 2 positives and 2 negatives, but each connection is "double" and with connectors that don't fit (to make matters more interesting).

How am I supposed to wire this?

Never mind. There's about a 1/8" difference between "looks like it will fit" and "actually fits". Installation fail. So at least I know that the kicker 40CWD82 is a no fit. :(

Where does it not fit? Does it hit the protrusion in the plastic that the original speaker magnet bolt goes through?

Yup, that's it. Were I properly motivated I'd take a dremmel to that protrusion, but I became discouraged and opted to retreat. I would be unable to attach the woofer at that point, and if that woofer started rattling I would kick myself...

I'd be able to handle a 1/8" problem by cutting or spacing...

It was close. But that protrusion is big and faces upwards, and it would leave a pretty big hole and might end up rattling. Pioneer makes an 8" woofer that is low profile and am sure will fit. I may try again... :)

I gave up. I'm going to get an amplified sub instead and either add it to my setup or replace the stock one. I'm not going to get the bass increase I want by replacing the speaker. My new door speakers are making my stock sub sound like crap.
