Thinking of taking them off for a few reasons.

is there any reason why i shouldn't?

is there any vendor that has a different style?
I've never really been a fan of the stock ones.

I was walking back to the truck from a retail store a few days ago and just happened to notice someone parked next to me fling open their door. The door must have slipped out of their hand, but in any case it slammed against my truck. I knew that their door had hit my running board, so as I approached I saw their door with a little damage and not even a scuff on my running board.

I try to park further out in the lot for my (and others') convenience. But, this is one good thing about the stock runners! LOL

Matt has a good example there:waytogo:
When I get my Raptor I plan on taking them off and replacing it with the SDHQ rock guards.

Yeah, the factory steps definitely catch doors and shit with ease. When I have to park at work near other cars, I purposefully line the truck up with their doors in the right spot.

thinking about it now it does make sense, i just think it would look so much cleaner with the boards.
wouldn't the rock guards do the same though since they come away from the body by a few inches?

Not sure it looks like the SHQD ones are to close and a door would probably hit the truck instead.

Here's my thoughts:

I took mine off because in the snow and mud - they were a complete mess and a bitch to clean. When they are clean they are easy to step on. Also, I never really liked the look of them as well- mostly because of the material - didn't match any thing else on the truck. I ran with no guards for about one month. Then took a large bush, then avtree branch to the drivers side. Noticed alot more rock hits on the rear fender after taking the stock one off. Apparently the stock guards were computer modeled for splash protection - that's why the strange shape.

Had SDHQ custom fab mine. I had them place it pretty close tobthe body. Slight risk if you hit hard on not being able to get out....... Also we tried to reflect the cool angles of the fender wells. It does not give great mud / small stone protection but is great for using as a step because the mud falls off. Also easy to clean.

Added the rear bumper to complete the package.

Also, it will definitely protect against a car front door. Probably not for a truck door or rear car door.

Hope that helps. Check it out in

in all honesty im not REALLY worried about the door dings as i ususally park well away from anyone, IMO i just think the truck looks so much cleaner without those big ol things hangin off the sides.

Flagbonz yours is a prime example.. i'm not huge on the screw, but that thing looks sooo sick with the fab they did.

Though not the best looking, the stockers are functional.

I hear rocks hitting them quite frequently. Combine that with door-ding protection, they serve a quality purpose.

I've yet to see an aftermarket step that looked good enough to spend money on.

Yeah, rocks hitting them constantly. I could only imagine if those rocks went ripping up my door or fender panels...

I kind of like the way they look too.
