Well, i was one of the people who were sticklers for the K&N air filters, all until now.

I recently decided to replace my stock air filter, as i figured i have put some good offroad miles on my truck, so i just tapped into the 7K mile marker and decided to inspect the air filter...sure nuff, thing looked brand new (side facing towards the engine intake) and the other side (side facing the wheel well) was dirty as alll hell! I am not too sure if the K&N could filter out the same amount of dirt, but this seems like a better way to go to prevent any dirt from entering the engine.

Before, i could go till 10K to 12K before i would change out my air filter...so the K&N was a no brainer...but after seeing my filter just after hitting the 7K mile mark...i can sacrifice the 2HP gain, for durability, and a cleaner engine. here are some pics:

forgot to add, but i just replaced the stock air filter for a FRAM air filter (15 bucks), as this was the only one the auto store had for my 2010 model.

I'm just trying to understand, the side facing the motor was clean and you need something that filters more? It just seems to me the filter is doing it's job or the side facing the motor would be dirty as well.

That looks like the "thin" air filter, is it?

Ray, I don't think he was saying he needs something that filters more. He's saying he's happy with the paper filter and doesn't feel it worthwhile to go to a K&N type reusable filter for a potential 2HP power gain while having to clean a filter that may not do as well as the paper filter.

I've replaced my air filter twice now (once at each 5,000 mile oil change) and I'm very pleased with the job the paper filter is doing. I've used the Purolator filter (about $20.00 each) and it's done a great job filtering the dirt and muck out while letting clean air into my Raptor's engine. And that's all you can ask of an air filter.

Yea basically that's what I meant, the stock air filter setup seems to work really well.

The pictures are of the OEM filter, which seems to be more thin than the Fram filter. I will look into the purolator, never heard of it, but I will give it a whirl to see how it does.

I'm trying to find excuses to do something on this truck, but I haven't found it, except maybe a true dual exhaust, but nobody has even come out with one....so it might be a while till I get something lol

Sorry about the misunderstanding on my part.

Anyhow, I do understand the want or need to mod vehicles. My plan is: window tint, spray on bed liner, and some type of bed cover...something like J's. cover. Then maybe car cocooning. That should keep me busy for a while.
