Speaker upgrades?

yeah we have a lot of crazies in this state, but at least I'm in Everett and not Seattle.

Currently I have the Phoenix Automotive PX6 12.1" Tesla style head unit, the original Sony system amp and speakers (minus the subwoofer), a JL 12" sub in their truck wedge box, and an NVX 500w amp powering it. The system sounds pretty dang solid, but I'm wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to change out the speakers as well. I think the Sony amplifier provides enough power for them, but maybe a better speaker might give a little cleaner sound over the paper cone stock speakers. Also, any other upgrades you guys would recommend? Thanks!

In regards to your speaker upgrade, I just had Noah come out and do a full tune with the Mosconi Pro DSP and i couldn't be happier. I did all the install myself and after everything was installed i had Noah come out and do the tune. So for a few weeks i was driving around with decent Morel speakers running from a Kenwood deck but still using the OEM amp and to me, i didn't notice much difference. My suggestion is to do the DSP and basically get rid of all the OEM audio components but its all about sound preference vs cost. I spent about 1k on speakers and until i ran them off my Arc Audio amp and DSP they didn't sound much better than stock.

since the sony amp is also the crossover, it sends different signal to each individual speaker. eliminating the oem amp/eq curve is only possible with a processor. since you are are using the phoenix and have no rca output, you have to use the speaker output of the phoenix.

That's too bad. I was thinking of getting the PX6. Haven't decided how far I want to take the stereo yet though. Is there a head unit that you recommend that would allow for future flexibility. Would it be a Kenwood head unit with iDatalink Maestro?

I definitely plan to call Noah sometime next month to try to figure out what route I want to go in the future. For now, I'll keep lurking and researching.

I'm honestly not looking to go crazy with it. Reason for going to the PX6 was to get video in motion on the dash as well as Google Maps instead of using it on my phone. The stock subwoofer setup was awful and even on full crank barely made any bass, so I needed the amp, line converter, and sub/box to replace the factory one. I'm pretty happy with everything now, and I know it won't be perfect without changing quite a bit of stuff. I'm just wondering if it would be worth swapping out the factory speakers with something aftermarket. Not really looking into gutting the whole sound system and re-doing it.

depends on the year of your truck. 2010-2012 you can change the head unit to what you want. 2013-14, not so much

Several years ago I installed the Kicker Soundstage speaker system that was made for the F-150. It stated it was not for the Sony stereo but I was able to utilize the door speakers and the 10" sub box. I ran power to the sub and picked up the sub signal off the factory sub wiring. It is a big improvement over stock in my opinion but I'm not an audiofile.

Thinking maybe I'll just leave the Sony amp along with my Phoenix Automotive head unit and 12" JL sub and just upgrade the speakers themselves. I don't really want to do a full 100% build and tear everything apart at this point. I figured maybe just some better speakers than the factory paper ones would be a good idea.
