Curious to know how easy it is to siphon gas or otherwise have gas stolen from a gen 2. Earlier while I was driving, I noticed my miles to empty quickly drop from 300 miles to 240. A 60 mile drop after just 15 minutes of casual driving. Concerned, I pulled over to see if there were any leaks but didn't see or smell anything obvious that might indicate a gas leak. While idle, I see the gas continue to drop despite being parked. I bring it over to a Ford dealership nearby and after assessing the guy there says that most likely someone siphoned gas from my raptor. I always thought it would be difficult to steal gas from modern vehicles like the raptor but I understand not impossible. But I wonder if there might be other factors. I did leave my raptor parked outside for a day in Texas heat. Temps got up to above 100 so I wonder if that could play a part. That said I'm not sure how fast gas evaporates or if a truck could really lose that much gas if parked outside for day. I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas to what might have caused this

But aren't the new 'no cap' fillers supposedly siphon-proof?

I believe so which is why I find it a little hard to believe someone went through all that trouble to steal gas from a raptor. And if someone did steal my gas, they only took a quarter of the tank. It just sounds dumb

I have a gen1 so this may not be accurate for your gen. We had some folks in my neighborhood get their gas stolen so I bought a locking fuel cap. Truthfully I am more concerned with someone putting something in the tank than taking out the gas, so I have kept using it even now that nobody has experienced that in a while.

WRT the no cap fillers being siphon-proof, I think that may be incorrect since the little funnel they give you to open the spring loaded gas slot would allow you enough room to feed a tube in. I haven't tried it, but the funnel works really well for adding gas from a jerry can.

Disclaimer.....Gen 1 guy here...

But I don't see siphoning gas out of these trucks as too hard. @bigrig makes a good poiny.....Not impossible but not unlikely. I wouldn't try on mine, maybe G2's are a little more hard to get to siphon?!?

Either way, only just a lil, like, "just the tip"?
Do you have any smells, wet spots, hows the injector lines look? Odd to drop that much that quick

Do people still siphon? I though the crooks were drilling holes in the side of the gas tanks and draining it that way. Regardless, I have had a locking gas cap since new 11 years ago, I don’t want dirt and crap getting in my tank especially when I wash the gas door, etc.

We did a quick check with the dealership but didn't see anything noticeably wrong with the injectors. The only leak we saw was from heavy condensation from the AC. Apart from the drastic loss of fuel we didn't notice anything else wrong with the truck. Guy there said someone probably siphoned the gas and the truck's computer took a couple minutes to show the actual fuel amount on the dash.. Will schedule another check up to double check but in the mean time I'll have have to live with fact that some moron may have stole my gas. And not that I would want anyone else to get robbed...BUT I just feel like there could have been easier vehicles to steal gas from LoL. like I was targeted.

i tried to siphon gas out of rick@freedom motorsports gen 1 when he totaled it last year. no luck. (hey, he had a full tank when he wrecked, what can i say?) theres something blocking it where the filler tube meets the gas tank.

as per the op, i know that how the truck is parked will affect the fuel guage. if on an incline (nose up) you will show more fuel than you actually do. if parked on a decline (nose down) you will show less fuel than you actually have. takes a while for it to level out. on an incline, your fuel will drop substantially and you dte will drop. on a decline your dte will show less, but it wont adjust. it will just say you have 100 miles to empty for 10 miles before it changes to 99 miles to empty. what i have seen is once the truck sits for a while, (most likely when the truck sleeps) it will reset itself to the current position of the truck.

I have actually looked into locking gas caps but a lot of the new f150s are capless now. I haven't found one that would fit a 2020 model otherwise it's something I'm definitely considering buying now. Also I did look for any signs of drilling but didn't see anything. If my gas was stolen, they only took a certain amount from my truck. After some more driving, the fuel amount indicator stopped dropping drastically and evened out. All together I would say I lost about a quarter of the tank.

that's interesting because the parking area where I left my truck is on a hill road but would otherwise leave vehicles leaning towards the side. I parked my truck the same way tonight so I'll see tmrw if has the same effect.
