I am sure this topic is all over the forum. I just went on a Raptor Expedition Run and had a blast. I thought my driving style is moderate but I actually started to push my truck hard. I know this because I was keeping up with the more seasoned drivers.

Now I am considering new shocks. Top of the list are ICON and Fox 3.0 DSC. I would like more dampening to distress the vehicle, but I also want better cornering ability.

Can any tell me if the stiffer springs on the ICONs will improve the truck's cornering ability?

Can I get my front end into alignment with stock UCAs 3.0 shocks?

My setup is: 2013 SCREW with stock tires, RPG bump stop and heavy springs.

Thanks to BigJ for his shock dyno write up.

Thanks
Dan

you can get the front into alignment with the stock upper control arms with no problems.

as for cornering, are you speaking of offroad cornering on onroad?

Big difference there.

I am going to be doing the same thing with the same setup, getting ICONs though.

Cornering, yes on and offroad differences that I will notice?

Huck,

Thanks for the response. I primarily would like to improve offroad cornering.

Thanks
Dan

I have an ICON 3.0 setup and really am impressed. Offroaded a lot this summer, pushing it quite a bit on rarely used forest and fire roads all over the PNW. Dramatic improvement over the stock suspension, the front end stays more level during hard corners under braking, you can still feel subtle steering inputs even when things are getting sketchy.
The bonus is that it will drive way better on the road too.

Thanks for the info. ICON reduced roll and speed stability sounds very promising. However, I wonder if the higher spring rate and valving causes undesirable performance in wash board and smaller high frequency inputs.

Cornering and handling in general off road should improve with any of the 3.0 shocks. I noticed with mine that my truck feels more planted and under control now. It was good before but since I upgraded it has improved the off road handling quite a bit. No complaints with on road handling either. Alignment wasn't an issue either.

What shocks are you running? Thanks for the note.

Hell yes !
Had me looking for the ripcord a few times with the icons.

Icons have better high speed cornering on smoother roads due to the reduced body roll.
Fox's have better high speed cornering on rough roads/offroad due to the more compliant ride.

The brenthel/king setup I'm running now is well worth looking into when you consider the cost is roughly the same as a fully upgraded 3.0 front end, but you get more travel, bump stops, and everything is stronger (double shear joints). I should have done it right from the start and saved a bunch of money. The performance is worth the cost.
It's as big a performance difference over a raptor with 3.0's, as a 3.0 raptor is over a regular f150. No exaggeration.
