Opinion on upgrading shocks on a truck that sees 85% of its time on the pavement....worth it for those that have upgraded?

^^^^ agreed, bump stops and rear springs. If you get the itch consider the Geiser progressive springs.

It's not really the amount of time spent in the dirt but how you drive in the dirt. With the stock 2013 I noticed the the rear bottomed out pretty easy when driving offroad. I wanted to avoid bending the frame so I called RPG to order a bump stop kit. They convinced me to order new leaf spring too. Convinced me that the new springs would be a lot more progressive, softer than stock at first and then progressively firmer. They were right.

Once I the new rear springs and bump the front I could drive a bit more aggressively but the front would bottom. I've since added RPG Fox 3.0 coil overs to the front. I'm not set.

I drive maybe 1 day a month in the desert.

In short, no, bumpstops and springs will do you. Brand doesn't really matter much, most of the vendors here will provide you with something that is quality and you won't likely know the difference.
