You should spray up those leafs with a Wire cable, Open Gear and Chain Lube spray!!!
It will get rid of the rusting!!! Too.
It will also bring life back to them for better ride comfort, right now there are practically binding with no lubrication.
Let the rear go to full droop to open the springs up and spray away.

Will do. Thanks for the advice. I'm not familiar with wire cable...did you mean wire wheel the rust off and then spray them. I was able find open gear and chain lube spray.

Wire Rope Lube in a spray can, it will stop corrosion and prevent dirt for sticking,
I spray mine up about every two months they look like new.

I tried finding Whitmores Wire Rope Lube on Amazon but couldn't find it.
There is a CRC brand and others.

It actually prevents concrete from sticking on the cable when they are pouring floors. Can't say that about the rest of the crane.
We charge a lot of money detailing the crane after a concrete job.

I worked for the largest railroad contractor for 20 years, and they had a lot of wire rope products. We always tried to talk them into using something on our load lines and boom lines, but they never would approve it. I bet this stuff would work great on the leaf springs. Gonna get some this week and try it out......

Here in NYC if run a dry cable you will be fined (up to $25,000), especially the hog lines (boom cables).
That is the number one reason for boom failure on lattice style booms, the cable will rust out of the cable ends (soldered eyelets).
The job Safety guys put Slings (cables) out off service when rigging companies bring rusted out cables for lifting..
