Turns out that the alternator was good all along. Worn, yes but still good output and ple ty of life according to the electrical guy. The problem was the main post was burnt, not trashed but burnt. Did some investigating and turns out the intake tube for the Procharger was grounding out on The main post. The paint was burnt on the pipe and the post had made a little round burn mark.
Got the alternator cleaned up, new connections and out the door for $60.
Intake tube now has a section of rubber hose zip tied to it to insulate the two.
