Is there a proper way or technique in using the SelectShift manual system? When coming to a red light, should you "downshift" to a lower gear or coast to a stop then put it in 1st? Also, is it safe to shift from D to M at any time or is there a specific speed that it is safe to do so?

I found that there are so many electronic nannys that it wont let you do anything that'll hurt the beast.

You can shift from D to M at any time. When slowing to a Red light while in M, the truck will automatically downshift for you, skipping 2nd gear on the way to the stop. I will let off in 6th and chick the button 3 times to go to third (since 3rd will take you to 90mph anyway) and I let the engine slow me down as much as I can and then I'll have to go manually to 1st that way.

The computer takes all the necessary control if you happen to forget, be it a upshift or down. It will not allow you to break it.

Damn near can just leave it in third gear and drive it around town.. Not the most fuel efficent way. But the beast will start from a stop in 3rd and take you to 90mph.

Not entirely true. When you manually downshift past 4th gear, the computer will NOT go from your manually selected 3rd gear through 2nd into 1st. It will stay in 3rd. If you are manually in 6th and slow for a stop, it will take you automatically downshifting through ALL gears and stop in 1st.
