Which vehicle should I get for frequent non Baja four wheeling?

Thanks for all the replies! I only was looking at a Tremor due to the Raptor's low payload capacity. Maybe I can address this with Deaver HD's or Icon's though... I need maybe 1500lbs total, not what some of these HD trucks are rated to so maybe a 250 is overkill.

Another benefit is that it's easy to mount a winch unlike a Raptor. Soon we should be able to order winches on them from the factory!

I also found that the Tremor will fit in my garage with maybe 1/16" of clearance. Better not remove any weight from the truck!


It was a couple hundred miles below 16k.



I test drove an F350 power stroke yesterday and definitely could feel the weight. I've never owned a diesel before and part of the allure of getting a Tremor would have been the diesel to be honest.



I thought about that, but I like how the Tremor also has an LSD in the front, 35in tires (which I would keep until they wore out), breather tubes elevated for water crossings, trail control, and rock crawl modes. That's a lot for just $2615 above an FX4 (there is a LARIAT+Tremor discount) especially considering I'm paying $1k just for decals on my Raptor.

You can totally address payload with stiffer springs and that's exactly what I did. My truck weighed in at something like 6980 last time I took some garbage to the dump. The stock suspension was hurting but I went with the Icon's and it's all good now.

If you go the 250 route, I'd ditch the Tremor package unless you plan to sell the truck some day. Like others have said, you'd be better off just using the money on other parts. Front Torsen is nice but, honestly, normal 4WD is going to get you 95% of the way there and the rear locker will take care of 4.99% of the rest.

I think most of us are mature enough to admit what a tremor is better at and what a Raptor is better at...

Most of us didn’t buy a Raptor because we were mature. We bought it because we have the financial means and the 12 year old inside all of us convinced us it was a good idea!

I'm looking into the airbag system for the rear axle. 2.5" bags to help level the truck when towing or hauling. It costs less than $400.

Agree - I tow a 24' wake boat with my truck - boat, trailer and liquids, im looking at 7500lbs. the truck pulls it with a little squat but not bad. needs the airbags to help big time. also, steep ramps are hard to back into without the boat pulling the truck like a rag doll!

I just took my raptor to the local spring shop and they added 1 piece of oem steel to each leaf. And it works awesome. Gave me about 350 lbs better tongue load and works very well. They showed me how they could adjust the stack to get the ride height I wanted etc. and was less than 500 bucks if I can remember. While the Tremor is a neat package, (I remember when it was a lowered street truck) the Raptor is simply better off road.

if you never owned a Super Duty, they’re very heavy, tall, and long. They turn much better now than they used to even though it’s nothing to write home about. They bring the exact characteristics you do not want in a trail rig. As a pull truck, yes. Off-road, no.

The Powerstroke adds considerable weight. The truck rides like a hay wagon unloaded. The MPG is pitiful because it is not rated. Expect 10-15 at best.

I vote to upgrade a Raptor with springs and manage your cargo wisely. Or conversely, I’m willing to bet they’ll upgrade the carrying capacity on the new generation trucks if you’re willing to wait.

In all honesty, it depends if you want to tow or not or if you plan to tow. And when I say tow, I mean 20+ ft trailers and boats. The tremor is superior when it comes to towing so that's the question you should be asking yourself. Both trucks with go wherever you want. Raptor will be faster but if it's more technical with a lot of rocks then the tremor might be a better fit. In my case, I dont tow at all but I do plan on towing a small overland trailer so the raptor was a better fit for me
