Hello all. I have wanted a Raptor for a while now, and finally have decided that it's time. I was a Ford tech for 15 years but got out of the dealer life back in 2012 when these things just came out, so I don't have a lot of technical knowledge on the different years. I'm trying to decide between a supercharged first gen or a second or third gen. What do you guys think are the better years? Engine work doesn't scare me at all. Transmission work on the other hand is better suited for transmission guys. Never have liked working on auto transmissions. I had a 1998 Super Cab F150 that I drivetrain swapped with a 2000 Lightning. That was a very fun truck. Surprised many a hot rod with it. I currently have a 2000 F250 7.3 that I have had for 20 years as a daily with 285k miles. She's going to go from a daily to a weekend tow rig for the toy hauler. I'm a gearhead through and through and have had many many cars and trucks over the years that I have built and modified. Thank you all in advance for your input.

Welcome to FRF

@MTF is I believe selling a supercharged Jen Juan Raptor, which would be right in your lane, and you’d have a truck from one of us.

I think it really depends on what your use case is.
What’re you planning on using the truck for?

It's going to be my main driver. Not a daily as I have a Subaru to commute to work with. But I live in Colorado and we go up in the mountains and run trails, tow the boat to the lake on weekends in the summer, go to different towns in the mountains like Telluride, Vail, Steamboat etc. Mainly a weekend driver. I'm sure I'll drive it to work occasionally as well.

Here is @MTF ’s truck: https://www.fordraptorforum.com/thr...y-loaded-scab-with-38-656-miles-38-000.90016/

For Mountain or high elevation duty, supernatural aspiration will be helpful. A 2017-2020 would be good as well.
For any used truck with 40k plus miles, look hard at tires and shocks, the Fox are good for about 40-60k tops before needing rebuilt.

1st Gen trucks - Fuse 27, look for rust on the bottom rear of the cab.
2nd Gen: https://www.fordraptorforum.com/thr...n-too”-raptor-some-things-to-look-for.101501/

Welcome to the forum, it all comes down to money. Gen 1 would most likely be the cheapest upfront cost Gen 3 the most expensive. Condition and maintenance records needed to be checked out on any Raptor before buying. So, really it comes down to first your budget, then your engine and body style likes. Just a side note from me the Gen 1 is the sexiest of the three.

A turbocharged engine maintains much more HP at high elevations. 2020 gen 2 or any gen 3 non R
As does a SC engine. There is more lag with the turbos, but the SC takes power to make power.. So, 6 on one and half a dozen on the other I guess. I guess I am partial to the 1st gens as I love the V-8 sounds. But how about the tech between the gens? Are the 1st gens upgradable to the latest tech?
