Ok fellss... finally figured outwhy this kept lowing fuses (#30 15amp fyi). The way they spliced this together is really funny (ok not really since this isn't cheap and I wasted time trying to figure it out). They used metal splices and then shrinkwrapped them all together.... can you say SHORT CIRCUIT. View attachment 19102

Yup that would explain it! Weird, I'm sure it was a fluke because mine appear to be shrink wrapped separately

I did this with a mercury switch a ways back. Much cheaper than the SDHQ kit.

How about providing some info on you accomplished this feat.

seams easy.... find old Honeywell round mercury thermostat. cut the mercury switch out. wire power from the truck to it. hang it so when the hood opens it makes connection and sends power to LED's mounted where ever you want to put them.... boom :lol2:

mercury switch by sonicelectronix.com and roundeyes.com adhesive mini light grab the power from the battery. Screw mercury switch into hood lift.

loom up for protection. It looks like roundeyes may no longer have that adhesive LED, but I'm sure there are others available.

Just installed this hood light mount from SDHQ. Works great and its really bright. At first I thought the light was a little big for under the hood. But when I popped the hood, I realized how much room there was. It almost looks OEM. If you turn it on while you drive, you will have a whitish glow behind the grille. Looks sorta cool but provides no real purpose.

Great idea on the mercury switches!

I planned to do the budget version someone else posted, but realizing I would have turned that into a 4hr project that I would keep putting off until a day too late... So I ordered this kit last week. A true 5 minute install, great product and helpful pics from birdman.
