Rough Ride

I have had my 13' screw for 2 weeks now and I have to say, it rides like crap! Am I crazy? I live in IL where the roads aren't the best and I thought that with the suspension that comes on the Raptor that I would have a smoother ride going over all the bumps/potholes in the road. It has been the exact opposite, the truck exagerates each bump. I have never ridin in a more stiff vehicle. I have to say my Avalanche had a much more comfortable ride than my Raptor on the road. I know this truck is built to go offroading, but when I took it through a corn field covered in snow, I couldn't go faster than 5 mph otherwise I was afraid I was going to break something the way the truck was jumping around. It was almost as if there was not suspension travel as if felt like there was no give driving across the field. This is definately not what I expected the truck to drive like. Is this the way this truck is supposed to drive? If so, anyone in the market for a new 13' screw?

At the end of the day, the Raptor is still a pick up truck. It will ride and handle like a pick up truck. i think your expectations of the ride are unrealistic, probably based on all the information about the suspension. I thought the Raptor road a little harder and stiffer than I expected at first too, but I re calibrated my expectations, thought about the speed and what I was driving over, and it really is a pick up first.

I don't know what year Avalanche you had, but with the construction of the body, and I think the newer ones even came with air suspension in the rear, it will ride much better than a Raptor on the road.

The Raptors suspension will shine a speed. Taking pot holed dirt roads or the roads with more patching than pavement left, you will notice the difference. The Raptor will track straight and true, the truck will stay level.

I went from a 2012 F-150 lariat to my 2013 Raptor and the ride on the road was noticeably different. The Raptor was not near as smooth on the road. It is not as soft on little bumps as the Lariat was. That said, I took the Lariat on an old country road and it beat the hell out of me. I took the Raptor on the same road and was able to go screaming down the road like butter. The Raptor really is set up for offroad duty. It is not going to ride like a Cady on the road, but you will love it in the field.

Yeah, at 40psi, it is going ride harsh off road. Lower it down to 25 psi. I bet we will have an onboard compressor stock in 2014! Too bad u cant just hit a switch.

I had a 2009. My expectations may be unrealistic based on the "research" that I did on the vehicle before hand. Unfortunately I could not test drive one as no one ever had one to test drive. Weirdly both my wife and I thought it rode better when we first picked the truck up, but that changed after a couple of days.

If I am looking to put some Nitto or Toyo M/T's on, I am guessing I can expect a ride that is even rougher? If I were to change the suspension out to say the Fox 3.0's would that make a difference at lower speeds? The ride isn't horrible, just not what I was expecting.

Thanks for the input! I guess I really shouldn't be comparing it to my Avalanche. As MTUH3 said, I guess I will have to change my expectations. I do love everything else about the truck!

Talk to our Vendors ICON or RPG. They probably can help point you in the direction you need. As for tires, try to compare side wall "toughness" (ply and load rating). Looks at tire weight too. Less ply, tougher sidewalls may lead to the same or tougher ride. (I don't have the tire specs in front of me to compare)
