As an update I also installed the Rough Country 30" curved light bar in my grill. Install was a little tricky bc of the crappy fasteners used for the grill shutters but the outcome was worth it. Only $250 for 12000 lumens output, and I can probably add a second one in the lower position if desired.

Equally as nice! did you take pics of the install? I did not think you could practically get a single LED bar behind the grill

They say there's one in every crowd and today I guess it's going to be me. I don't know why anybody would buy a $70k truck and put junk parts on it.

What sort of range are you getting out of the light bar behind the grill? Does it cover well past your lights? $250 seems like a deal.

I did take some pics will upload later. There's actually room for a light above and below the Ford logo just like the M&R install

Its all supposed to be genuine 5W CREE LED's. I had good luck with Rough Country on my Sierra and these Black Series look nicer than what I had in my K2XX truck.

I get what you're saying, but Ford already put junk parts on my $70k truck. Just looking at the interior trim alone.....

I live in the city so I cannot really measure range but the throw does seem to surpass the factory HI beams

I was looking at these and serious question, why are they junk? Comparing the 30 inch lightbar of BD vs. Rough Country.

13.5K (24 led) vs 12K lumens (30 led) (little more light with less LEDs)
IP69 vs IP67 (little more waterproof)
120W vs 150W (little less power)
Lifetime? vs 3 year (bracket lifetime) warranties
both are AL housing
$1000 vs $250

So BD is slightly brighter, less power used, more waterproof. Of course they are higher quality not questioning that, but why FOUR times the price?

If I was serious off road driving guy I would probably spend a grand on driving lights and buy high dollar light bars. But not all of us that own Raptors bought them for that purpose.

What I ask myself is why some people spend 70K plus on a truck. Build it to the max and then take it out and rag the shit out of it?

My answer would be.. Because they can. Same reason people put less expensive upgrades on a vehicle. Because they can and it works for them.

Sorry dude. But using the vehicle for what it was designed for (literally) makes a lot more sense than putting chinese made junk on your expensive truck. There are many reasons why quality lights cost more. The least of which is the fact that they are 2+ times as bright. The colors are better. The patterns are better. In the real world they are going to send light farther and wider. And they'll do it reliably, without foggy lenses, water intrusion, rusty hardware, and fading powder coat. And if they do fail, a good company will take care of the issue without question.

You can do all the mental gymnastics you like but junk is junk.

putting a B/D light bar behind the grill is a gigantic waste of money, no matter what anyone else tells you. You’re losing a great deal of light throw behind the grill and the B/D lights are awesome, I have several. But not behind the grille.

I love the B/D lights for distance, they rock. That said, the light color is better from my amazon sourced cheap lights. They don’t throw anywhere near as far as a B/D light bar of comparable size and I didn’t expect they would. but damn they throw an incredibly bright amount of medium dispersed, white light that is much closer in color to the factory headlights color than the B/D lights.

What B/D brings to the table is efficiency, distance, warranty, configurability and they’re freakin’ bright. Even the squadron sport / wide cornering is enough to **** off the most tolerant of on coming drivers, and the squadron pros throw light a long-freakin’-way. Also, Baja Designs lightens your wallet like no other lighting vendor out there, so you won’t have to worry about keeping a lot of cash in your wallet.

If you’re in an urban, suburban, not sand-dune-blasting at night, east coast off roading type of driving scenario, you can do fine with lower cost light options. But if you want more consistent, coherent spot beam, longer distance and want options for different lenses, then save your pennies for a couple years and if that doesn’t do it for you, then you can always do what Baja Designs told me when I asked about “easy financing terms” for their lights.

“smurf’, you can always get a paypal credit line”.

it’s your truck, it’s your choice.
