Let me speak for all techs in the world that we love it when customers "watch us closely and question behavior that is questionable"

I also love it when customers question me doing something a certain way and say they read on the forums that you are suppose to do it a different way.

Hey I love it Customers ask me questions I get paid hourly, and when the customer ask "why I'm I doing that way" I say "how would you like me to do it" with a look of derision and then write on the work order " per customer request.

It certainly has prevented me from having lug nuts impacted on 2 - maybe 3 cars, and another 2 trucks and as we’ve seen on here by other posters, the price for letting a tech who’s uneasy about supervision from the person paying their salary is usually the one cutting corners.

I think your reticence shows the kind of tech you are(n’t)

I'm a dam good tech, and more. Been doing it for a long time. What bugs me is what people consider "questionable behavior" If someone knew better or all about their truck then they wouldn't be paying someone else do work on it. If you think the tech working on your truck needs "supervision" then maybe you need to find a different shop/tech. Yes there are a lot of bad shops/techs out there but making their job even harder isn't cool. Its the same entitlement people have at restaurants, treating staff poorly, and defending their actions by saying "i'm paying salary" I don't go to a restaurant and tell the server what and how to do their job, its the same for techs.

Anyways, its life, I don't want to get into a huge debate or argument about it. Just voicing my opinion.

You may be the best tech ever. Unfortunately for good techs everywhere, there are bad ones, and bad ones famously f*ck stuff up. When they do, consumers remember it. I was getting some work done at a bike shop, jawing with the owner when one of his n00bs put a 3 or 4 inch gouge in a marchesini magnesium wheel for a Duc. It was just a rookie mistake but Rick had to call the owner, who showed up a few minutes later pretty steamed, more steamed when he saw it. That was a $2000 mistake, and I kind of felt bad for both of them, but... Rich should have had a senior tech show the n00b how to treat the 2000 dollar wheels and not screw them up changing tires. I’ll bet that guy still watches shops change his tires, or he does his own.

it’s like the bully cop caught on video being mr. tough guy. pretty much all the other LE out there suffer for it, uniform or plain clothes.

I’m actually debating on biting the bullet and having the local stealership do my wheel/tire swap because the local tire places have just failed to impress me. It may be more expensive up front, but, I’m betting I won’t have to make 3-4 trips to get a good balance on the tires. So far the only thing they have given me grief on was the moon roof, which they contract out. I bought the mechanic and service mangler gift cards when my latch recall got complicated with the dynamat. I had zero headaches from them, they had to get into all 4 doors through the insulation, and had some trimming to do on one of the doors around the handle.

well i watch the guy working very closely, because i want to see the procedure myself, out of interest, learn possibly. But inside i always have this fear that the tech may not like it and do something purposely wrong. They really behave differently if you are watching them, but again, even if your are friends with the main senior guy, the juniors feel more irritated. They will ask to go sit in the office 20 times. They will try to cover what they are doing with their posture. I never go to same guys again.
I actually enjoy a good conversation and praise a tech who is willing to explain things. Some love it while others hate it.

I don't know why but that last part made me laugh out loud.

Seems like bike shops are way worse for having a few zero talents employed and waiting to fu** up your shit if you didn't watch them. I had the same forged Marchesini wheels on my last Gixxer, not something you want someone to booger up! I was fortunate that I have 2 local shops I could trust if I wanted something done and didn't feel like doing it myself. Both shops knew me a long time and respected that I that had been both riding/racing a long time and was knowledgeable and very ****/picky with my equipment. The shop guys always thought it was funny my bike would be the only one in the shop that came in with every Phillips head screw aligned with each other. They would have only their lead tech work on my stuff.

It's tough to find somewhere to have confidence in. The first full time job I had as a kid was wrenching on Kawi race bikes because I had started working on them when I was 12.

If you have a full size spare, why not rotate it in, one position at a time and see what happens.

This is unrelated, but can make you think it's a tire. I traded in a 2016 GMC Canyon that had what I thought was a tire vibration at 80-85 mph. I swapped positions and balanced the tires. I use to sell tires in my younger days and new what to look for hen balancing. Nothing helped until I read about an issue with the leaf springs on the GM's slapping. I also had a bang every time I entered a driveway. I made some rubber spacers and inserted them in between the main and secondary leafs.

Result.....the vibration disappeared and the banging stop. GM is aware of the issue, but has no fix. Showed the dealer my fix and he just shook his head because GM hadn't addressed it.

Ride quality changed after new tires but it's not tires

Would love some expert help on troubleshooting. Have a 2017 Crew cab w/ 25k mi. that has always had amazing ride quality, even when the tires were worn and needed replacement. I replaced the tires with the same load range and size BFG KO2's that were worn. I ran at 38 psi.

From the time the tires were replaced - When I drive it over 50 mph the ride quality is poor and feels like a tire is out of balance. Seems to vibrate/hop like I'm driving over bumps. This happens when at speed in neutral also. I have put about 500 miles on them now and still the same. I have lowered pressures to 36 with no apparent change in ride.

I took it back to have the new tires re-balanced where I bought them. Still had the problem so I took it back again to have them balanced for the 2nd time. Picked it up, same problem.

For the 3rd attempt I took it to another place for balancing the tire that has the road force machine also. They balanced the tires said road force was good, one of the tires was off 2.5 oz. After 3 different trips it is still not a great ride like it has always been.

Doesn't seem to be the tires but something is not right. There is nothing visible underneath that looks out of place like leaf springs that show movement out of place, etc.

I suspect it could be drive shaft, axle, loose suspension part, maybe even brake issue but it does not change when braking. Educated Ideas?

Next trip is the dealer.
I got news for ya...

BEEN THERE - DONE THAT - SPENT THE FRIGGIN HUNDRED BUCKS FOR RF!!

You aren’t gonna like the news: KO2 are notorious for this! Don’t ask me why, and I refused to accept it since I’ve had dozens of sets, and 2 Gens of Raptors!

You’ll hear, “well, the Gen2 is 500# lighter, ya know”, “less air”, “more air”, blah blah blah.

I got sick of the amount of BS people would throw at the wall to see what would stick.

In the end, I had to accept it. Funny thing. After having the RoadForce done, I got a bolt in one tire. So, took it to Tire Pros for the fix. I warned them that I had had RF done and to be careful to remount it the same. Oddly enough, they said it was WAY OUT OF BALANCE!!!

So, who’s to believe? Only plausible reason is what I’ve heard from a least a couple sources, and that is the fact that K02’s just aren’t made with the highest tolerance as and that, “somehow”, Ford must have a QI process to select ones with better tolerances.
