Here are the latest new ultra high Performance Headlight Bulbs for you from Philips. The H13 / 9008 Xtreme Power bulbs give an enormous improvement in beam focus and formation. They put up to 80% more bright white light in the beam's hot spot so your beams reach out further down the road — wider, too, for easier seeing in turns and on curvy roads. They're made with the world's most precisely wound and accurately placed filament coil in a compact, AR-treated optical quartz envelope. Xenon, krypton, and other noble gases are included in the newly-reformulated fill gas. A discreet blue ring at the head of the bulb envelope gives you new-car style without sacrificing beam performance (as less advanced blue-glass bulbs make you do). And the anti-glare end cap is attractive platinum chrome rather than the ordinary dull black. Fully DOT-certified and ECE-approved for use in any headlamps that take H13 (9008) bulbs. For the best possible street-legal performance from your headlamps, get these Philips Xtreme Power bulbs — they are the finest in the world.

This is very good for you if you have it on YOUR vehicle, but it kinda sucks when you are the one seeing it right in front of you from another car. Every time i come across those lights on a dark street i have to slow down and look away.

In my experience (and testing), the Philips Xtreme Power bulbs are better than stock... but certainly aren't going to blind oncoming traffic. Lvdezertdawg and I went out to Jean dry lake a couple of nights ago and did a side-by-side comparison. It was very dark out... but difficult to tell if the Philips had significantly more range. What was obvious was the slighty "whiter" beam of the Philips and the better beam pattern (wider, better fill). As BigJ said in his original review... these bulbs are definitely my choice for replacements for the stock bulbs when they wear out, (better than the Silverstars I've had) but the improvement is not spectacular enough for me to say I would run out and buy a pair "just because"... (and IMHO the stock bulbs are better than Silverstars.)

That said, the Philips Xtreme bulbs were impossible to find at a retailer near me... So you might consider ordering a set to have on hand. I highly recommend Candlepower Inc as an online source for these bulbs. There was a problem with my first shipment and the way they handled the situation was nothing short of first class.

Exactly right Mark. Couldn't agree more on any point.

charlie I think you might be talking about the (illegally installed) HID conversion kits in our OEM housings. Those HIDs need specific reflecting and baffling in order to prevent exactly what you're talking about.

The bulbs talked about in this thread are DOT approved (legal) halogen replacements. They work with the OEM housings and reflectors and therefore don't throw any more light in the oncoming driver's face than do OEM bulbs (assuming proper alignment).

Just curious, do these have a reputation for burning out frequently?

I've had silverstars burn out after only a few months, whereas my stock headlights have lasted my current truck for 6+ years.

I'm very careful installing them, i.e., I do NOT touch the bulbs (which can cause them to burn out very quickly due to finger oils sitting on the bulb).

Not that I know of. So far mine are still working flawlessly.

FYI these are not overdriven like Silverstars are. That's why Silverstars tend to burn out relatively quickly.

Thanks, I'll probably try some out at some point (still waiting on truck order).

FYI - Philips has a $10 rebate for purchases before January 31st.

I bought the bulbs from Amazon, but no rebate form was found in the box and I could not download it from Amazon's website. I contacted Amazon and they credited my cc for $10.
