Ever since I got my 2012 my bluetooth, AUX input, and USB would not work. When trying to pair a phone I wouldn't even get the PIN to make the pair. With the USB unable to connect, I was unable to try updating the software. All other master reset and power cycles didn't work. In this how to I will show how to replace the APIM and what the circuit board looks like.
To replace the APIM
1. Lift rubber cover around the center speaker. Remove the two screws with a 7 mm socket and lift off center speaker panel.
2. Disconnect main harness by pressing on the locking tabs and sliding the grey bar. Also remove USB connecter(s).
3. Remove the screw on top of APIM mount. This is the same size screw as the previous on the center speaker panel.
4. Slide APIM mount up from its metal mount.
To replace follow in reverse order. Never mind my breakfast in the cupholders.
Here is what the board inside the housing looks like.
The processors are made by Freescale, once a division of Motorola.
Memory chip is a Samsung. Notice the third of the four insulator pieces have fallen out. After reinstalling the insulator this APIM still didn't work.
Hope this helps someone. After all the great information I have learned from this forum, I wanted to give something back.
