I just got some quiet tires for the first time and started noticing a grinding noise from the rear wheels under heavy braking. It happens, for example, when going to the bottom of my neighborhood (steep downhill) stopping at a stop sign.
If I'm normally flat-ground driving it would only happen if applying the brakes quite hard, maybe over 60%.
It almost sounds like the rear tires are locking up on grainy gravel. But it is pavement and there is no squealing or anyhting.
Ford OEM pads and rotors, rear changed 2000 miles ago, front changed 1000 miles ago.
Braking performance seems fine. Any ideas?
