I was contacted by a guy about a set of coil springs i'm selling for a gen 1. He said he bought a 2015 F-150 with gen 1 suspension and was looking for new springs. I was a bit confused on why someone would put Gen 1 suspension on a 2015 F150. he did send me a pic so it obviously works although who knows how well. Anyone ever see someone go backwards in the swaps or try to put gen 1 shocks on a gen 2? Maybe he meant 2014 and not 2015? the pic i got was only of the shock and LCA so maybe he goofed up the year.

Gen 1 shocks fit the 2105 and up F150 coil bucket. The longer Gen 2 shocks need to have the coils buckets removed and new ones (KHC, CAMBURG, ETC) welded or bolted in to allow for full travel.
I have a 2018 F150, with a full raptor swap. Gen 1 shocks and springs up front, all Gen 2 control arms up front, and Gen 2 rear springs and shocks.
personally I would do some aftermarket or even Gen 2 coil springs since they should be slightly lighter for the lighter aluminum and v6 engine weight instead of the heavier Gen 1 body and 6.2 L.

You're saying even the 2015+ F-150 need a coil bucket for a gen 2 shock?

Yup. To run any Gen 2 front shock on ANY f150, the coil bucket needs to be replaced. It’s not a hard swap to do, I think Camburg is even a bolt in design….but I’d feel better about welding it in.
But the Gen 1 shock fits perfect and has full travel.
