Jason, I highly recommend not reinventing the wheel here. There are many designs you can look at online. I suggest the one above as an example (Shrockworks) with "decking" over it. Note that it has the step rail angled up to increase ground clearance and avoid obstacles. The key, IMO, is going with a two rail design with the inboard rail to protect the underside of the cab/body and the outer rail to protect the lower door area, provide step for entry AND lifting points for the all-capable Hi-Lift Jack :)

Looks good Brian!

A few comments:

  1. Powder coat - I'd powder coat them (maybe that's your plan)
  2. Angled out tube - I'd angle the outer tube up to give you more ground clearance
  3. Decking - I'd put something over the 2 tubes like punched steel (vented?) or expanded metal, etc.

And I'd make sure you have enough support tubes with brackets and gussets to hold the weight of the truck (about 1/2 the weight) so you can be sure to use the outer tube as a jacking point.

Here is how I plan on going about it..

1. Powder coat is a must!!
2. There isn't that much room to get too much of an angle. Have to watch the door opening.
3. Ya we were thinking expanded metal on the top side of the sliders.

Nothing new to report on here.

When I look at the design shown in this picture I like the gussets under the tubes but I'd suggest they be put on top of the tubes too. These things need to be real strong to support the weight of the Raptor and be used as lifting points for the Hi-Lift jack

Another example of a rock slider design with sheet metal (with holes) in between the tubes...

LoD Offroad has recently released their new Signature Rock sliders / rocker Guards for the Jeep JK. They can be found here, http://www.lodoffroad.com/ The Jeep Rock Sliders / rocker guards for the JK are frame mounted so there is no drilling into the body. They are built 3/16" steel square tube and .120 wall round tube. The JK rocker guards have a built in step with dimpled holes for traction. The JK rock sliders / rocker guards are designed to support the weight of the Jeep JK unlimited. The rock sliders are a good point on the Jeep to use a high-lift jack on if needed. LoD's rock sliders are powdercoated for a long lasting finish. There are 2 different types of powdercoat available for the Jeep JK rocker guards. The first is a Black texture powdercoat, which basically matches the fender flares on the Jeep JK. The other pwoder coat that is available is LoD's Matte Black color. The Matte black powder coat is a flat color that has a smooth finish. For more pictures of the Jeep JK unlimited rocker guards / rocksliders, visit http://www.lodoffroad.com/.

we looked at it and decided the sliders will have to be welded on. The boxed frame makes it difficult to go with the bolt-on design. The cost for a one-off set was a little discouraging. So at the moment the project is on hold. I have another project I'm working on at the moment that I will reveal at a later date ;)

Stoner, did you ever get sliders on this truck? If so where did you get them? Did they work with a hilift jack?
