Looking at heading to raptor assault in May, but looking at costs for flights / places to stay for the family and it can get pretty expensive. As is everything these days.

For people that have gone in the past.

Is it worth it?

Thanks

You are going to be the only one driving unless you pay the $1495 for a member of your family over 18 years old. It doesn't make financial sense to fly your family roughly 1400 miles for you to enjoy an experience for 2 days and leave them with limited things to do.

I've been to other Ford events, it was worth it.

Understood, my wife and I have always wanted to visit the Salt Lake City area. Given the opportunity we would take the chance to spend a week there. I would just do the event myself for the day.

Just trying to decide if it is worth planning the trip around Raptor Assault or not.

Was it worth it? Depends what you make of it, if you ask me. I laughed when I told my friends that Raptor Assault was free. Everything else cost me roughly $2000, LOL! Before the pandemic, everything was definitely cheaper. Took my gf, 2 plane tickets, 2 nights stay. Rental car. Food.

But I had a great time! They didn't even offer a family member to drive, all she went to was the dinner the night before the class. She hung at the hotel the day of. You should have a good time, it was fun. If you go, get their video package, you'll have something to remember it by!

I had a great time. I’ve been off-roading for over 30yrs, but I still learned a few things especially about the Gen 2. I had been in my Gen 1 for 9 yrs, 240k miles.
BUY THE INSURANCE they offer. I was there a few days after ”Someone “ rolled one 2x on the Baja course and another Starbucks Race Team Driver ran one into a cedar tree in the mountains. $100.00 gives you $5k walk-away insurance in case you go out and drive all “Jacked-Up” on a Venty- Double Expresso-Soy-No Whip-Goat Milk-Laaattee ;)
Plus you get to JUMP someone else’s $80k Raptor a few times.
Lots to do and see in the beautiful SLC area. Park City is always a favorite and check out the Winter Olympics venue. Park City has the Winter Olympics Training Facility. Ya’ll can take a Bobsled ride 2573C99B-1FBE-446C-9C4D-03659D59533C.jpeg18CFB196-A42D-4616-970C-D9B02CEF693C.jpegADE9470C-A557-47B6-A5AB-34778EF3BCDA.jpeg7057ACD6-3E72-4187-B076-474C6EA1BFEC.jpeg542FEE64-A0AC-4D49-A88A-3A49B71AD3FB.jpeg

Prior to RA I had only driven through SLC. We made a mini vacation out of it and it was really worth it. We stayed near the airport so we were only a few minutes from town and it was about 30 minutes to Toole for the day of. SLC has plenty of great food, hikes, drives, and things to do to keep your kids/wife/multiple mistresses occupied while you go full ape mode on their trucks.

Is it confirmed that they’ve got 3rd gen trucks now? I figured they might still use 2nd gens with all the production delays.

My wife and I are making a little vacation out of it. Staying in Park City after the driving day for 3 more nights. Lots of good hiking, mountain biking, etc.

If you’re a seasoned off-road person, you won’t find it super enlightening (according to the guy I was paired up with at Assault). However, for me it was a blast and super informative. The experience was a lot of fun. I’d leave the family behind - there’s nothing to do nearby for family and flights and hotels are too much. My family told me to go and have fun. So I did. :)
