Went in August. These trucks are great at crawling with the trail mode actually impressive how well they work.

Yes they give out the tire trophy.

Definitely a fun day and well worth your time. I came from Florida so the desert terrain was great for me and I got to experience things very different than what I get at home.

I got the insurance because I am risk averse. It simply decreases your liability, but does not provide full coverage. As Dave Paterczek said in the video introduction at the reception, "Drive it like you stole it..." So I did and had a great time. Lucky for me, I had an AWESOME Co-Pilot which made the experience even more fun! Take the time to meet your fellow classmates and pair up with someone who will be as gutsy as you. Get behind the lead instructor vehicle.

Do you recommend paying the $80ish for insurance? I opted not to figuring I would be timid and any damage I did would be well below the $5k deductible.

You can purchase the insurance when you sign in if you change your mind. No one in my class needed it, but about half of the class bought it. I bought it, and am glad I did. I didn't need it, but it gave me some peace-of-mind and more confidence in pushing the truck hard - Way harder than I will likely ever push my own Raptor. Like others have mentioned, it is very impressive what these trucks are capable of. They get abused regularly and they just keep on going strong (with some maintenance I'm sure).

The main point in the Assault experience when I was glad to have the extra insurance was during one of the follow-along portions. Was a tad higher speed and thick dust. We were told to stay within sight of the roll bar lights of the truck in front of you. The dust was so thick it was an adrenaline-generating experience. If you lost sight of the lights you were told to have your co-driver get on the walkie-talkie to let everyone know you were stopping...and hope the guy behind you doesn't pound you from behind. The adrenaline rush comes from our desire to NOT be That Guy who has to stop the train. So we push the limits...you're traveling at a speed and following at such a close distance that things can go wrong. Fortunately there were no incidents but that was the time when there could have been. It was worth the $80 to me.

I think the insurance is worth it if it frees you up to explore the capability of the trucks more. I believe you can still sign up for it at registration. To be honest, I didn't realize the deductible was so high, which makes a legitimate question.



Thanks. RA course aside, the Tooele Valley is a very cool place to explore and stomp around. Lot's of terrain there. And southern Utah is an offroader's paradise. Moab, St. George and many other areas have established trails as well as swaths of fairly unregulated BLM land.

the only reason I disagree is it’s still a $5,000.00 deductible! If you bump someone from behind because they stop, it probably won’t exceed that and if so, not by much. Also, they might ask both parties to split it in which case the combined deductible is $10,000.00 before insurance kicks in.

If it were a $500 deductible for example, I would definitely by the insurance but that high seems ridiculous.

also, there’s so chance your insurance would cover it if you’re not on a race track.

I enjoyed the experience and met some really great people. However, it was raining the entire day and we didn’t get to jump the Raptor. Wish I could have done that in their rig instead of tying it in mine!

Unless you had a different set of instructors than I, you were never going to jump. They made that clear from the start. Nor would they demonstrate it. Despite a bribe to be paid to their favorite charity.

They added jumping just this year in March. I loved every minute and never thought one time that it needed any suspension mods...curious if you agree
