Raptor as family vehicle?

Hello everyone

I am currently debating about getting 13 screw raptor as my family car for four ppl. please bear with me on noob questions as I NEVER owned truck before.

I would mainly use the car as my DD and weekend fun car but would like to use this as family trip car as well.

The question I have is that, how do people secure luggages (suitcase, large duffle bags, etc) for long distance trip?? Also, is there a way to secure these things don't get damaged from rain or snow while stored somehow on truck bed?

It would be great if people can give me advice on this matter.

As far as luggage storage I just put everything in the bed and it doesn't move. The bed liner doesn't let things slide easily and my bed cover keeps it dry and secure.

You can get a BakFlip F1 and a BedRug and travel all you want. Keeps it dry and the bedrug does not let it move around.

The Raptor is a great family vehicle, especially if you get the SuperCrew. With that said, I think it might be a bit of a burden if you have younger kids that aren't able to get themselves up in the vehicle. It is very comfortable. I am not going to lie and tell you that the ride is super smooth, but the ride is smooth for a truck. Your best bet would be to go test drive one and compare with other trucks as well. The SuperCab is smoother than the SuperCrew, but you lose that extra in cab space.

I'm sure you've already looked into this, but I'll just make sure you know. The Raptor as a DD is going to be quite expensive especially with fuel prices rising. If you're okay with that then I say you will love your Raptor!

A good place to start to protect your luggage, suitcases, etc. would be a tonneau cover. If you need more space (height wise) check out bed caps or camper tops. I would also look into a BedRug or BedTred or at least a bed mat.

Hey Jinmik, welcome aboard!
I bought our Raptor for the exact reasons you mentioned, and it's also my first truck. In all honesty the Raptor is the ultimate family vehicle. Every year we make the long trip from Seattle to Santa Fe and the truck is incredibly comfortable, powerful, and enjoyable to drive. My wife and kids look forward to this trip (as I do) and I never hear a word of complaint. Can't wait for next summer!

p.s. as others have mentioned, the Bedrug/Bakflip combo is excellent for luggage and most everything else.

I think the raptor would be a great family vehicle. The seats are comfy and great for road trips. There is a ton of leg room in the screw, even tall men can sit in the back comfortably. You'd definitely want to go with a tonneau cover for the bed and some type of liner. I really don't know anything about the bedrugs but I think that would be great if you don't plan to haul messy things... If you plan to haul things like dirt, much, firewood, you might like a spray in or drop in a little better, since they are easy to hose out.
The only concern (other than gas millage) I can see with the rap being used as your daily driver would be your comfort level with the size of it. Its a big truck and could be a hassle in urban situations.
Definitely go test drive one, take the fam with you... Make sure the salesperson let's your other half ride in the front to get a true feel for it. Good luck!

I have two kids and the Raptor works well for me. But like Humvee said, the SUPERCREW is a must. The only disadvantage (advantage?) in my situation is that my wife refuses to drive the Raptor due to its size and difficulty to park.

As i looked into BakFlip, I found F1 model and VP (which seems to be a newer model).

F1 seems more expensive than VP but VP is newer. Can anyone tell me the difference between two and which one I should go with between two?

And thanks for other advices. We all test drove the truck and loving it so far!! It will bite me hard on the gas money as I drive 100 miles per day but I can live with that.

I misread your original post - I thought you said it wouldn't be your daily driver but instead a weekend/fun vehicle.
As a 100 mile a day, daily driver, it might not be the best choice. Find a cheap, fuel-efficient car for your daily commuting duties?
