I’m going to try and get back to mounting rock lights on the Rap today. Got the rear wheel wells done, now looking at the front. well... I will be when I finish brewing.

Which lights did you end up going with? I have been looking at the BD set.

It’s just you. The 6.2 is a terrible engine for what is supposed to be a performance vehicle; it’s a slow, old and inefficient E-Series engine designed for fleets. 5.2 is a fully forged hand built engine from the GT500. They have nothing in common aside from the number of cylinders. A high performance truck deserves a high performance engine. Hence the 3.5 HO and 5.2 S/C. I don’t understand how anyone could complain about having their choice of either.

Amazon ; Suzco. They’ve worked great on my Yamaha for the past season.

I expect some of these things to be killed. Horribly. In fact, I already did.
I was wheeling on the far reaches of the property in the RMAX. There’s an 8-10’ berm I can get a little air on if I hit if fast enough so I said to myself
’no guts, no glory’. I did get a little air, worked those Fox shocks.

And tore off the right side roll bar mounted rock light when I launched - tree limb smacked the bar, and ripped that light pod right off. I’d failed to permanently secure them, and had the cord wrapped around the bar exposed. Guys were super helpful getting me new pods. cost me like $5.98 for a pair.

For the Rap, I got the rears mounted to bed x members fore and aft of the axle, in what --looks like-- out of the way of any moving parts.

I’m having a bit of trouble envisioning a good mount on the running boards. I saw another FRF used some strong magnets which I may end up doing myself but I’m not sure. I could also mount on the inside frame / body close to the running boards, but not on them. This would make them less likely to be ripped off, but I’d lose some light and effectiveness. I’ve tabled this mount until front wheels get done.

I’ve found 2 places I can mount pods on the inside of the fender. I’m concerned that outboard mounts will get destroyed too easily under suspension compression. I may be able to figure some better outboard mounts if I disassembled the truck a bit, which I’m dreading.

6.2L debuted in the 2010 Raptor smart guy. Superduties got a detuned version in 2011. E-vans got it in 2017 when it was upgraded.

I’m referring to its intended application “smart guy”. It was never developed for the Raptor, it was developed to replace the 5.4 as the base engine in E-Series/F-Series. Hence why it has a cast iron block and weighs 600lbs. Never mind the fact that Raptor launched with the 5.4 3V as the standard engine.

Is it just me…or all these idiots who have attacked us for enjoying and wanting V8’s over the past 9 years and relentlessly cried about their V6 so much have all now gone and sold their V6’s? They all want the R and now are crying about not getting an R and are overpaying and blowing the market up for the V8 they supposedly hate...Like am I going crazy? It’s just insane watching the raptor community turn from a quality group of real working people who enjoyed off-roading into a bunch of spoiled bratty rich kids that just want the next new thing. It’s a sad state of affairs we have.

I mean , engine v6-v8 aside , i think in general yes youre right. 60% of purchases are annoying people coming from bmw’s and shit that want to buy into the image of off road ruggedness and rigs and usually never have or will take their truck off road (tacoma drivers) . You can usually spot them in the forums asking annoying questions over and over about why the 37” knobbys vibrate on the highway. Or complaining about other ride dynamics inherent to rigs with taller suspension/ tires. Meanwhile most of the hardcore guys had this stuff sorted in our 20’s. Hell I built my first rig before I graduated high school. In fact the whole starbucks meme here in this forum is a tip of the cap to those folks… as of late there seems to be more and more appearing.

Lol I’m not comparing the trucks or having the same old boring engine conversation. People do whatever the F people do and I couldn’t care. My point was it’s ironic that after all this bashing and fighting for a decade that in the end ppl are still selling their V6’s and going back to V8’s as fast as they possibly can (and overpaying for them might I add) which we were told was impossible and I find that humorous. Why I have always said just offer both versions and let the ppl buy what they want but yeah know.
