Range Calc or Formula

Anyone know the formula or calc for “range to Empty”?

just drove KC to Nashville, started at 520 range to empty and roughly 12mpg. By the time I was 400 miles down the road was up to 16.2mpg with 120 RTE. So my range went up to 520.

Does it use current trip avg mpg along with tank size?

I would think it knows what size tank you have and then adjust the "to empty" calculation depending on how many gallons you are using currently to drive so many miles.

For example if you are driving down a steep hill on a highway and let your foot off the gas and reset your mpg, it will show 99mpg, well, on my truck anyway, lol.

DTE/Average Fuel Economy (AFE)
The DTE is calculated in the IPC using the Running Average Fuel Economy (RAFE), which is the fuel economy over the last 480 km (300 miles), and the fuel level input from the fuel sender(s) to determine how many miles the vehicle can be driven based on the remaining fuel in the tank. The DTE can vary in the short term by up to 50 miles, but is usually within 10 miles. Even if the fuel economy is relatively constant, the DTE can be off over a 50 mile range by -24% to +38%. The DTE display and the fuel gauge both use the fuel level input from the fuel tank to provide their respective functions. If the fuel gauge doesn't function correctly, both the fuel gauge and the DTE display are affected.

Yeah, sorry about that, a typo. Sitting in a bar on Broadway in Nashville on St Pats day maybe not as sharp as usual.
