Questions for the owners - noob looking to get into a raptor soon

Hey everyone, I have my lease expiring in about 6 months and starting to do my research into my next vehicle. The raptor has been a truck that I have always loved and been impressed with and I wanted to get some info from the experts! If you guys can answer a few questions it would really help me and i'd appreciate it.

1. Do all supercrew Raptors come with the bigger 36 gallon fuel tank?

2. Depending on my budget I may order new or look for a fairly new (2019-2020) with low miles and in mint condition. If I do go new can I simply order on Fords Website and are dealers still trying to get over MSRP on these trucks? Hopefully not.

3. While I will not do a ton of major mods I would like to do some basic performance mods as long as it's not a detriment to the trucks reliability. I was wondering what are the basic mods everyone does and preferred vendor/brands? I was thinking maybe a tune/intake/exhaust.

That's basically it and I will be lurking on the forums trying to learn as much as I can on the platform. Thank you guys for your time and advice and badass trucks you all have!! :)

Well, ford hasn't decided when and if the gen 3 is coming out. You might have to wait longer than 6 months or go with a Gen 2, if you live in any of the southwest states, the dealers are using a high mark up. Yes, supercrews only have the larger tank for Gen 1 and 2, nobody knows about the Gen 3 yet. Good luck in your purchase.

We have a metric cr@p ton of supporting vendors here on FRF and they do a bang up job for us. Most of us get aux lighting, stereo, maybe wheels, tires, it really depends on what you want to do.

performance wise, and intake and exhaust won’t buy you anything but more noise and suck up your money. Some of these exhaust systems are more expensive than a titanium Ducati exhaust ( which is to say, freakin’ expensive ) and, nobody has shown any kind of hp gains on an exhaust. You could lose some weight with a kit that either drops a resonator or muffler but not both. AWE has a muffler delete, 2FG that’s reasonably priced if you need the extra noise.
Tunes come in many flavors, with and without transmission tune. This can be under a grand and is the best performance bang for the buck. if you’re keeping it and have an ESP, etc. the normal drive mode is atrocious. Sport mode is ok, but not the best for every day.

The truck is plenty capable off road, use it, get used to its behavior and if you find you want more in one area, focus on that.

I think it’s going to be hard to find a new one, depends on where you live though.

Coronavirus set the car market on fire, my local Ford dealer (Long Island, NY) pre-Covid would have anywhere from 5-10 new raptors and close to 100 new F150s on his lot, with a pretty good used car selection / offering that would refresh often.

But now they literally have zero raptors, new or used, and only a handful of new and barely any used F150. Their stock is like 5-10% of what it used to be.

They’ve been buying and bringing in cars from other states just to have inventory for sale. The values on used Gen 2 Raptors has probably risen $5k. New, highly doubt you’ll find someone willing to sell it to you for sticker (if they even get anymore in). Most likely it’s been scooped up by another dealer and marked up already.

Your best bet is maybe seeing if things cool down in a few months closer to the end of your lease and picking up a lightly used one for a non inflated price.

Mod wise, as others have mentioned, exhaust and intakes aren’t really worthwhile, they’re expensive and won’t really net you any meaningful gains. Your best bang for the buck is a tune, but that could potentially void your bumper to bumper warranty if there is an issue with your powertrain. The truck is a beast stock, I’d drive it stock for a while and spend your money on other upgrades (lift, rims, tires, off-road lighting, accessories, etc).

Then, in a year or 2 or when your warranty ends, can drop a tune in and make it like a fun new truck again.

Agree with all the above but would like to put this out there. When I was at the Raptor Assault school over summer, I asked what the best mods for performance were. He said, "This truck has more than enough ponies to get you in and out of any situation. The only mod I would do outside of suspension and lighting would maybe be a larger intercooler."

I had a tune on my last truck and love it. However, I have a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper that I don't want to mess with, so I am holding off. The truck does have a lot of power. I did add a Pedal Commander, which I think is awesome. You will find mixed reviews on it here. It adjust the throttle mapping to be more aggressive. I use it in normal mode because I don't want to be in sport mode with the suspension stiffened and higher revs prior to shifting in everyday driving.

Definitely agree with the guy at raptor assault. Honestly the 3.5l ecoboost is the perfect powerplant in my mind because of fuel economy and forced induction. You wont see any power loss going into higher elevation unlike n/a engines. So if you plan on overlanding like me, its wise to just stick to stock to keep durability and longevity. My only gripe is the raptors no longer come with a winch option. I know how I'm going to get around that but it's an additional $5k
