No cut outs on the bed rug. Mine is great as far as quality and plenty thick. Are you talking about it covering the step that pulls out?

I had spray in bed liner and the bed rug that cover the whole bed. I had no problem installing the Build right rack system, but I can't install the front rack due to the can for the Pace Edward roll up bed cover is in the way.

So what is a good alternative?

I don't know. I was so happy with the Bedrug in my '03 Dodge that I just ordered one without shopping around or doing any research. That one had dense gray closed-cell foam backing bonded to thick marine carpet. The new one has black foam with ginormous air pockets and the carpet is nearly see-through. When I picked the box up off my porch I thought it was empty, but no. I beat the living crap out of the one in the Dodge and it looked like new when I sold it. A month on the new one and I have two holes already under light use. I'd probably go with a dense rubber pad instead. Maybe glue some indoor/outdoor or marine carpet to it if you want lower friction.

You have to remove the cover, then install the front racks.
