Question #12: Flood Ford ESP; When to buy?

I wait due to the fact that transfering it is a pain. Yes I know as I did it on an F-350. Getting a pro rated refund, ditto. Why not wait. Nothing to lose. Plus you never know if you are going to keep the vehicle that long. Nothing to gain by getting it early.

I remember doing the warranty on my sport explorer, and if you didn’t buy it by 12 months from purchase date , I believe the esp warranty went up 350$ a year as well, plus it needs an inspection , and if you have any mods, they might not do the warranty!

Does any of that apply to the Raptor ESP, though? I haven't seen anything about a $350 warranty increase, or anything about getting an inspection, and I'm sure it doesn't cover things that were modified, but they're not going to void the warranty completely if there are mods, they just might not (or won't) cover the modified parts, right?

I have purchased multiple ESP warranties and bought without any upcharge. Actually got a better deal after the purchase. As far as inspection? Nope. Not one time. Just have to purchase before factory warranty expires. Only time inspection is necessary is if Factory warranty has expired.

This may have been mentioned. I purchased the rental insurance also. It's pretty good. Service writer was surprised that it covered something like $70/day and not the usual shitbox $30/day or whatever, so I got to pick what vehicle I wanted basically. Plus they kept the truck for over a week, I think it was just to reprogram the tranny computer, and a couple other odds and ends, but it's been over a year and a half ago. Had it in again last Thanksgiving for tranny shifting concerns and heated seat not working. Again, they kept it over a week and I didn't have to pay for a rental truck.

Long story short, I had a new F150 to drive both times for over 2 weeks and not a dime out of pocket. The way I see it, that already payed for more than half of what I paid for the warranty. 6/125k, at 45k now.

I assume a Ford ESP is a Ford ESP...Zeigler responded to my inquiry by dropping the price $50 below Flood when I mentioned Flood’s lower price. Apples to apples of course (in my case 8yr/100k $0 deduct). Not sure whether to include maintenance component yet—never felt those ever saved much as we have had those on my wife’s BMW M4 but wanted input from anyone who has utilized Ford’s maintenance. And wondering whether the ESP is jeopardized if one were to not strictly follow the maintenance requirements in the manual (aside from always doing air/oil filters and oil changes of course). Thoughts?

Just wondering why Ford would honor the ESP if you don't follow their recommended maintenance schedule?

From a dollars point of view, the cost is only $100 more to add it within 3/36 instead of 1/12, so I’m guessing many would wait to see if they kept the truck longer than that...

That's me. If it isn't reliable during the first three years, I don't want the headache, even if it costs me nothing. If it's been reliable and I plan to keep it a few years longer, I'd consider a plan at that point. I wonder if Ford declares bankruptcy what happens to those plans?
