Hi guys. I'm Kelsey from New Mexico, and I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks after stumbling on the site through my constant Raptor-related browsing sessions (I'm not obsessed! pfft..).

I am in the market for a Raptor, and will probably be ordering within the next month or so, if everything goes as planned. I want the super cab with the Plus package, and no other frills, bells and whistles (no offense to you Luxury package guys, the truck itself is enough to keep me happy!) I track/autocross my '90 Miata, and I often go by myself, so the back up camera in the Plus package would be helpful in trailering the Miata. However...

I have a few questions regarding the Plus package, specifically about the trailer brake controller (I searched). I guess I could post up in the Prospective forum?
Anyhow, does anyone have an aftermarket/non-integrated/factory brake controller that they've installed or can recommend instead of getting the Plus package? Is it worth the ~$500? I don't mind paying it, but I'd like to know if there is another option out there that I haven't considered/found that Raptor people have used? School me!

I also realize that the super crew might be a better truck for towing, but I'm kind of set on the super cab (and the Miata is about ~2100lbs, less once I start ripping stuff out of it..) so I think the Scab can handle that towing weight.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to getting to know the community.

Welcome aboard. There are aftermarket trailer brake controlers, however by the time you buy one and have it installed I doubt you would really save much. The Scab will have no trouble safely dragging your Miata and trailer. Max tow capacity is 6000 lbs.

Hey Kelsey, First off WELCOME!!

The Raptor Plus Pkg is well worth the $595 to have your brake controller "built in" it will give your trailer anti-lock braking along with/through your truck system. Plus the rear view camera will help with lining up your trailer, for easy hook-up.
61R RAPTOR PLUS PK $595.00
.TRL BRAKE CONTR
.REARVIEW CAMERA

You can have an aftermarket brake controller installed at most trailer sales / repair shops. But it won't be tucked away in the dash, they normally drill a couple of holes and hang it under the steering column.

I would be happy to order you a Raptor when your ready. It's taking about 11-12 weeks to get one pulled/vin'ed and built. -$3000 OFF MSRP

thanks Randy
