My apologies if I ask stupid questions. I have been using the search function, so I have already learned a lot.

My current truck is a 2007.5 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 6.7 Cummins. I was one of the lucky ones in that I never had any emissions issues with the truck. I bought it to tow my old Jeep with, but the Jeep still isn't finished, and while I once had plans of buying a camper, I just don't see it happening.

Don't get me wrong, I love the diesel! Even though I had no emissions issues with it, I went ahead and did the deletes and tuner at around 20k miles and it now runs like a beast, and gets over 20 mpg on the highway. It's also huge and difficult to manage in small parking lots, etc. It's only got 50k miles on it now, so it still has value. I hadn't really planned on getting rid of it soon, but I've been following the Raptors for years now, and with 2014 being the last year of the current powertrain (rumored), I was thinking of getting into one.

What are your thoughts? Am I crazy to sell a paid off diesel for a new truck? Ford dealers are very proud of this product....is there any good dealers in NM? I have no problem hopping on a plane and driving one back if I could get it below MSRP. I guess I'm looking for any and all advice!! In the meantime, I will keep hitting the search button and doing my research.

Thank you!

Welcome!

I also have a 6.7 ram 2500. Just rolled over 177k miles, I did the deletes when I bought it used at 60k.

I can't really speak for your personal situation but ill tell you this: if I had to get rid of one, it would be my dodge. I just bought a 2014 raptor and its the best truck I've had, so far. I use the cummins for my work vehicle because I log a lot of hours.

As far as finding a raptor goes: try cars.com because it will show you the inventory of all dealers around you. Good luck!

Edit: If you need to tow a lot, obviously the diesel is better. Also just remember that you will be going from 20mpg's to about an average of 13mpg. If that's ok, then go for it.

Welcome. I think the two trucks serve very different purposes. I can say this...the Raptor's specialty is putting a smile on the driver's face.

Thank you gentlemen! I really do love the Ram, and nothing tows like it. That being said, I'm not a rancher, nor do I have a camper. I only need to tow my utility trailer which hauls trash or my atv, and as soon as I finish my Jeep CJ-6 project, I will tow that, and only for the trails that are more than 4 hours away. The Ram can be unwieldy....when out hunting, it doesn't always make it around the corners because it's so long and wide...small parking lots are an adventure....it doesn't get warm by the time I get to work, etc. However, When on the highway, it's flat out incredible, power for days, moves straight as an arrow, etc. I've found myself driving my Wrangler 6 days a week, and the Ram one day a week (the day I have to travel 100 miles for our travel baseball team). I think the Raptor would fit kind of somewhere in between.

Thanks again!

Keep in mind that the SCAB and SCREW have different towing capacities. I towed a '98 Wrangler 100 miles with my 2014 SCREW and it towed like butter. Do you plan on trailering the Jeep?

As of right now, I would have to flat tow it. I would like to eventually get a trailer for it though.....
