Don’t give up hope quite yet. Dealer has a bite and they may bump up their trade in offer via phone/text to reel you in. The last day of the month is this Friday, they may be hungry to meet monthly sales quotas.

This is the number one volume store in the US for 2019, so they are moving a lot of vehicles daily. He knows that very few are discounting 2020 SCAB's over 7k so has the advantage to wait for the right deal for them to make that money back on trade or finance.

We were very far off, and said that even if I return it to stock he is sending it to the auction as my suspension was altered. I am driving an 18' GT with a Steeda Coilover with adj. strut set up, and informed him the new equipment was removed at about 100miles that will go back on if he didn't want the car as is. Didn't move the needle.

Truck is a great price for sure and trying to swing buying it with no trade but the equity that I anticipated as well as the tax savings swings the pendulum farther than my budget.

If you don’t hear back by Friday night the potential deal is dead. Too bad about the low GT appraisal, especially from a Ford dealer.

So, here's the deal I am still working in So Cal. I have a 2017 SCREW 802A loaded. Looking to get a 2020 LF SCREW 802A loaded. I can by in NE or Maine for 6k under sticker. BUT, if I trade to Carmax or similar, my KBB trade value is only 45k. My local dealer is offering 3k over sticker, BUT will give me 53k for my trade. So, that make the deal like I'm getting it for 5k under sticker. Plus they are throwing in the forged wheels for free since it wasn't included in this truck and free spray in bed liner. That kind of offsets the whole buying out of state thing for me.. . . I'm still on the fence . . . thoughts ?

How many miles on the truck? Sounds like the dealer is putting the screws to you. Sounds like 25g's to upgrade to a 3 year newer truck, plus whatever aftermarket stuff you leave on the old one. Does Cali give a tax advantage on trade in value?

I'm keeping all my aftermarket goodies to transfer over to the new truck. FULL tax hit in Cali. That's why I was looking out of state, but my trade in value suffers then.

So, if you get a full tax hit on the trade in, it would make sense to sell it outright for way more than trade in, $5k? The game they play here in TX, they will offer less than trade in value, with the knowledge that you will get some of it back on the sales tax benefit and let you know about it up front. Then you gotta start sliding papers with numbers across the desk to get back to where you want to be.

If you can swing it, you might consider just carrying the note on the old truck, if you have one, until it sells, while enjoying the new one. If you're patient and reasonable, it should work out. I've done it a few times and it always comes out in the positive, rather than trade in value.

Purchased my 2019 802a a couple of weeks ago for $8k off sticker and was given $3k more for my trade than anyone else would. I’m sure some did better, but I was pretty happy with the deal.

Quite a few dealerships in Texas have them listed for $7-$9k off 2019s, I’ve seen as much as $7k off 2020s.

Unless it is a reciprocating state, most will not collect tax on an out of state purchase. You would then pay the full tax when you register your truck in California.
