I buy a lot of vehicles, and have had some real bad experiences with doing distance purchases. I expect new vehicles to arrive as they did originally to the dealer, near perfect (assuming that's the case most times). I had one deal go sideways from a Southern California dealer, that they ended up firing the sales guy, which I never asked for, solely the dealer's discretion. The sales guy, however, didn't see it that way, and proceeded to first, try and steal my identity, and second, threaten to kill me in 3 separate voicemails left in the middle of the night, all 30 days apart, going on for a duration of exactly 90 days. He was very specific each time with the methodology he intended to employ each termination time, one of which including describing how he was going to disembowel me and "string your entrails along the cold, dirty, sidewalk". He was very much in touch with his prolonged anger.

Ultimately, I chose not to engage in distance deals after the San Rafael Sonnen Audi saga.

*EDITED for lack of spelling accuracy--this is why it's wise to get some caffeine before I post on FRF.*

What a story brother. I find it comical how nonchalant you appear to be re-telling this. That's ridiculous (not that anything surprises me these days). So how did you react to all this each time? How did you realize he was trying to steal your identity?

I ordered my truck in Oct '16 and it arrived Feb 9, so the sticker reflected the new higher price than when I ordered. I actually negotiated and signed on the amount when I initially placed the order in October, and my salesman said he would honor the original deal because he felt bad for how long the process took. In the end I paid $2k below MSRP for my truck so I am pretty happy.

Just want to share with people that not all dealers are complete scum.

Video I made explaining the whole buying experience in more detail:

Thanks! Glad to hear you'll have your baby soon. I called Gus Johnson and was told they would be adding an ADM. Maybe the guys who had already secured builds got the MSRP deal. I was late to the game :(. The truck is great, much more civilized than I had anticipated. My wife drives a 2017 Lexus LX570 and I don't think there is a huge comfort difference between it and the Raptor. The Raptors touch screen/infotainment is light years better than in the Lexus, and also significantly better than whats in my 2015 GTR. I am really happy with the truck so far.

As far as I know, every singe of Gus's seven 2017 allocations were sold at MSRP. The 2018's will have a $5,000 markup--I offered to order an '18, and keep my incoming '17, if they would go for MSRP. They said--no dice.

Wow, lucky wife, the LX570 is a very impressive vehicle! But a huge compliment for you to put the Raptor comfort index in nearly the same space. Do you still have the GTR? You've had some fun vehicles! Keep enjoying the Raptor!

Well, my trucks in production currently and windows sticker is available which reads the $635 higher MSRP price than what it should be based on the MSRP when I ordered. We'll see in another 1.5 weeks or so if my dealer wants to do the right thing and honor the MSRP based on when I ordered despite dropping CF per THEIR request.

My price was increased by $535. Dealer would not budge on new price. So just this week got a check from dealer referring to Ford Price Adjustment., not sure what gives.

Picked her up today. Had to pay the higher $635 price but dealer is filing price protection claim with ford and when they get reimbursed they'l forward a check to me. Nice!

I'm only nonchalant now, as it was such a process to go through, with law enforcement etc., and it occurred in 2010; time does indeed numb things up a bit. It certainly wasn't comical at the time, I can assure you of that. I would tell my younger self now--SKIP THIS VEHICLE ACQUISITION! Probably shoved a few grains of sand through the life hour glass at an expedited rate.

How did I react? Well, badly :win:. The messages were all left between the hours of 1 am and 3 am, so all 3 of the calls went to voicemail. And the imbecile, apparently feeling he had nothing left to lose (people lose it effectively, when they have nothing left to lose...), made the choice to leave his thoughts to be electronically recorded for all time. He deviated somewhat between his communications, sometimes wading off into the realm of arson with my father's business. He blamed me for being unemployed. I look back on it now, and actually feel pity for him. Such a troubled soul.

He went on to attempt to open several credit accounts in my name; I had BOA's Privacy system at the time, so caught the hard inquires on my credit nearly instantaneously. Mr. Angry Pants wasn't able to get any accounts set up with my credit, but he was able to tank my FICO score by 15 points (it is misleading for F&I people to tell you that similar industry credit inquires, done at the same time, like all auto related, do not cumulatively effect your FICO score--they do indeed knock you down, over and over, and over). He was applying for auto loans. Sorry, no autos Mr. Ex-saleguy, but I have a nice power tool for you if you come a knocking on my door :shooter:

Looks like the price has gone up again. About a ~$1k difference between my ordered price (3/14) to today when I checked Ford's website.

I just went on the Ford site, built the truck I ordered on March 18th at MSRP, price is up $210. Winning (for me). :win:

A good dealer will say you're price protected, whether they give it to you on delivery, or as with other people, a check for the difference after everything is settled with Ford. My July order, built just 2 days ago, went up $635.
