Used to only be the first 10 miles or so back in the day. Kept the lot guys and transporter guys from having all the power available.
WOT ASAP is the way to go for "break-in" of engines. Hammer that shit as soon as you can and seat the rings!
There is nothing to break in on an engine since we don't run flat tappet cams anymore. 1000 miles of easy driving is a great way to hone your rings smooth and have an engine that consumes a quart or more of oil between changes.
WOT ASAP is not the best for the gears in the diff, but those are cheap and I've never had a Ford gear set go out on me.
This. All of the engines I build get about 50-75 miles of medium accel + full vacuum decel with stop n go driving, then right on the dyno for power pulls/tuning.
