stuff has nearly doubled in like 6-7 years

If only i could do that for my rates lol
Indeed, if not more than double. Someone revived an old post from 2019 from a forum member, 454 Performance( I think). His shop built pretty much a dream Raptor, mid travel, fiberglass fenders and bedsides, pretty much SVT catalog. The price he quoted from that time frame wasn’t even a third of what I calculated it to cost today. But I get it, I’m selling materials at a price point I didn’t think I’d see in my lifetime and people are paying it, because unlike Raptor parts, they gotta have it if they want water.Still say $800 for the light hoop to put on an ADD bumper is excessive( I know I didn’t HAVE to pay it) especially when I bought an equally quality light hoop from FMI for half that to put on our Gen 3 bumper. Just venting.

most of this can really be blamed on inflation.

the ADD pro frame cut was $1399 in 2017.. its now $2279

how else can a $1000 increase be explained?

the intercooler was $1689, and now its $1999

looking at some other things on an invoice from dec 17, some things have not increased as much..

rigid 20" e series $699, is now $780

baja designs xl80s $789 are actually still $789..

Companies like ADD, SVC, RPG, etc. spend time and money designing and testing new products before releasing to the general public.

This is a key point. R&D cost a whole lotta time. Time = Money. I don't mind paying the extra money for equipment that has a proven track record. Take a look at my SVC Front Bumper. It's not there to look pretty and house a bunch of cool lights. I need it to function and boy it has held up to over 7000 miles in Baja. My skid plate isn't looking so good, but it's done the job in protecting the underpart of my motor. Guarantee your stuff can compete for half the price and I'll look at it.

Raptor “ tax” is as exorbitant as the Porsche “tax”
This has been a common refrain since at least 2016, and based on the Jen Juan MPG’s thread begun in 20 teens and continuing to this day, I suspect it’s been a thing since day one.

You get what you pay for, buy once cry once, it’s inflation, MAN! don’t make it hurt the wallet any less.
If I have a mod in mind I want, I scrounge the pennies until I can do it. I don’t like it, but I do it.

I paid the Posche tax. I’ll pay the Raptor tax. Just glad I have the wherewithal to do it…. Don’t mean I can’t bitch a little. I gladly pay the Sig tax to get what I like… problem is… I like too many things, thankfully the wife likes ‘‘em too. When I’m gone, the kids and grandkids can have what’s left.

R&D. Not much R&D on a bumper. The available mounting points are what they are. Intercoolers and ADD’s can only be relocated to a couple places. The radius of a front clip is what it is. The concept of R&D as a significant contributing factor is better understood within the context of tech, pharmaceuticals etc etc etc. I see countless companies simply charging more as they capitalize on the market conditions bore out of Covid. Many companies have little to no increase in costs associated with manufacturing a certain product but they still raise their prices beyond any realistic value they may have. I get it, they will charge what the customer is willing to pay. It just feels like there is no competition and they’re glad to squeeze their targeted group (us) for unrealistic profits. Gouging.

Yea, I remember the days prior to the Gen 2. Bought a Rogue front bumper for $900 shipped directly from them and I think their biggest bumper was ~1,400.
Even ADD was under 2k for all their bumpers except for maybe those huge ones they've always made.

3.0 race shocks were like 3k total.

Aftermarket in general for offroading has exploded over the past few years.

Add in the cruise control issues with the price, I have next to none want to spend the going rates for bumpers.

Jeep bumpers can be had for a reasonable price and that’s because of competition. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options with the Raptor so they can charge what they want.
People are paying $25k ADM so what’s another 2-3k?
