No, it will be smaller. This is how it's supposed to work, although metric sizing is more of just a reference nowadays because manufacturers run small or big. Just taken literally:

315 is the width in mm, so 12.4".

70 is the sidewall height, in relation to the width. So the height of the sidewall is 70% of 315mm in this case so 315 x .70 = 220.5mm.

220.5 x 2 gives the total sidewall = 441mm

441mm = 17.36"
+
18" rim diameter
=
35.36" tall x 12.4" wide would be the literal size of the tire using metric sizing.

the 17" rim would result in a tire an inch shorter, but the same width.

Awesome thank you! Now I'm officially not buying anymore metric shit lol. 35/12.50r17 is easier for me to just tell the tire guys lol.
