Options/Experiences with Tires

Hey Everyone,

Bought a new to me 2014 Ruby Red Metallic Raptor in March with 37k miles, the previous owner has done a few tasteful modifications, the only one I dislike, is that he put 22" wheels on a 35" tire (Toyo Open Country RT).

I am looking to stick with a 35" tire, but move to an 18" wheel, I consider this truck my Weekend Daily, don't drive it a ton, but I definitely enjoy driving it regularly. That being said, I will occasionally tow, and I've got a farm that I will go to that's a ways off the beaten path. I won't be using this truck as a hardcore offroader, so I don't need an MT. Looking at a Hybrid/AT tire. The life of the tire isn't the most important thing to me as I won't be throwing a ton of miles at this every year, but would rather have a good performing tire in all seasons as I live in the Midwest and hoping to find a tire that doesn't drive you crazy with road noise.

After some research a few examples I came up with were:
General Grabbter ATX
BF Goodrich K02
Cooper AT3

I'm definitely open to hearing other opinions, please don't use this to simply bash one or the other, would like some constructive opinions to go off of.

I have run a lot of tires in my Raptors over the past 9 years. The three you are down too are all good tires. Of that group, I would definitely recommend the BFG All Terrain K02.

The Toyo you have is also a great option, but I don't believe you will find it in a D rating unless going to 37x12.5x17

Like has been said, all 3 you have listed are good choices. I’m currently running the Grabber ATX, but I think I preferred my KO2’s overall.

For the price I like these Mickey Thompson Baja ATz P3's. Its a hybrid tire and is good on pretty much all conditions. I've put about 8k miles on them.

I know the local manager for discount tire by my house well as I've bought a shit load of tires from him and the guys been there forever!
He alleges to me you can't beat the KO2's on the Raptor
He (and a few of the techs) run them on their f150 as well.
I'm not an expert but this guy knows tires and I've learned to trust and respect his opinions.
I REALLY wanted to try a different tire this fall as I'll be needing new treads but he slapped my straight and said don't do it thus I won't and I'm rather thick headed and like to do things my way.
Again just one man's opinion...

I recommend Pirelli Scorpion All Season
I have had BF Goodrich KOs and KO2s
The Pirelli Scorpion is much better in the rain .. heavy rain, a real feeling of security.
The ride is noticeably softer. They cost less & they look good.
Best tire yet for me.

When I bought my truck it had Toyo MT's. Good off road performance, good on road/daily driver. They were not great in wet weather. Fairly good in deep snow, live in WI, but not really good in the thin slush, bit better in deeper stuff. Road noise was not bad considering they were 37's.
When it came time for new tires I did the shopping and comparing. I wanted to stay 37's which limited my choices and good wet weather performance. I went with Coopers DISCOVERER® AT3 XLT.
I have been very satisfied with them on and off road. They make the Toyos sound loud. I've had them for about 20k now through winter and they have not let me down.

The coopers are q speed rated (100 mph) 8bs heavier per tire than stock
Grabbers r rated (106) 11 lbs heavier than stock
BFG are r rated (106) 5.2lbs heavier than stock
Stock size KO2 are s rated.

Unnacceptable performance losses for .6" gain, Stock size KO2 ftw.

Been running the Cooper STT Pro's on my 04 F150 for years.

They're just as happy getting me into (and back out of) places I probably shouldn't be (Mud or Snow) as they are rolling down the highway.
They wear well and in my opinion, the level of noise isn't bad at all.
I can count on one hand the # of times I've seen 100mph in the last 10yrs, and if I have a problem with an extra 32lbs on something that already weighs 6k+, I'll just eat one less cheeseburger and take a before getting in the truck.
