I have some old school punch amps that have been laying around. I was thinking about upgrading the speakers in my raptor and maybe using one or more of the amps. Would this be overkill without any subwoofers? I've been out of the car audio game for almost 20 years. I have a Punch 45 and (2) Punch 150's, on of which is from 1990 and still brand new in the box

the old rockford stuff was a great piece of equipment, however technology has increased so much now, you may want to think about an upgrade. when rockford made those old punch amps, they were the staple of the company. they gained a reputation for having kick ass stuff. i would definitely say you can use them in your truck, but with the newer stuff out, you will gain better sound quality with modern technology

Is the new stuff really better? I've looked at some stuff and the prices are dirt cheap. I remember paying $600 for a punch 150 in 1991 and it was only 150 watts. The power 1000 went for $3000. The new stuff just looks cheap to me. Like I said I've been out of the game for almost 20 years and feel lost. The new rockford stuff doesn't even look like quality pieces. What are the go to brands these days? I always ran Rockford, JL audio, Linear power, and Soundstream

i think the price difference is mainly due to there not really being much competition at that time. now there are so many companies. there is the main stream ones, quality companies most people havent heard of besides the audio gurus, and cheap ones that will crap out or set your truck on fire lol

I'm running a little bit of everything. Factory amp to an Audio Control Line output converter, to a Rockford Fosgate Processor, to JL Amps, to Hertz component speakers and a JL sub. With a little bit of sound treatment in the doors and back wall, I'm running quite loud and clean, with little to no distortion.

Was at a car show a week or two ago and there was a kid that had 4 or so 12's crammed into the trunk of a little P.O.S. Hatchback. (Bought rattled the damn thing to pieces) Sounded like shit compared to my single 13.5 JL shallow mount. (Thanks Noah!!!) :D

Started down pouring rain at one point, so I fired up Thunderstruck and cranked it up to max as everyone ran for cover. Even with the windows up I'm pretty sure everyone could easily here it, based on all the looks I was getting from across the street. Hahaha

Anyway, the main point for upgrading to modern equipment is more power, much higher efficiency, and lower cost (maybe, depending on the route you go). The main thing is really the efficiency. I can run 1600 watts of total audio at max volume while also running a 30" and 40" LED bar, Two 90watt LED hood Lights, six Whelen Micro Pioneer LEDs, two flush mount bumper LEDs, and the HIDS on bright. All that and nothing even comes close to dimming on the bass hits. That's what you really like to see! ;)
