Oil life monitor based on lower of time / mileage?

Well this topic is everywhere but my personal experience is to trust the OLM. Have two Ford Performance vehicles in the garage and have went by OLM in both for years; over 100,000 miles on the Raptor and ZERO problems on either. Life is busy enough; why not let the sophisticated computer systems in these vehicles take some hassle out of it?

And if anyone is nervous about it, my research shows that, at least with Ford, the OLM is quite intelligent. It takes into account idling, load, engine operating temp, outdoor temp at time of operation, whether a trailer is hooked up, drive mode at time of operation, and other factors. Don't know about you but that's more than I'll ever do. And, if you hardly put miles on or they are pampered miles, the default message is to change oil at least once a year. You wanna throw money away and have more grease monkeys in your rig than needed, go right ahead. I trust my $80k vehicles to the computer and have for years and 6 digit mileage. I just drive and enjoy and don't worry about a damn thing.

2) oil life depends on oil too. some break down sooner than others so i keep track of how hard i push my truck and change oil accordingly.

Just take an oil sample and send it in to Amsoil or Blackstone. Simple, cheap, and you get actual data for your vehicle/driving conditions/oil and filter used.

I’ve been using the same oil form day one it’s always went off around 5-6k 6 months religiously. This year it sat for 2 months without battery and only had 3k at 8 months when it went off . At first thought it was an error but saw a couple YouTube vids on the subject from The motor oil geek and it’s considered normal because of a few reasons . The oil was actually a lot darker than normal .If you drive an average of 25mph your engine will run the same amount of time if you average 50 mph but at half the mileage.
