Oh yes, put on a new oil filter! Even if you take the old one out and drain it, it'll still retain some contaminated oil and the filter element will be contaminated too. Retaining the old filter is like washing your hands before dinner, but eating off a dirty plate. There's no point in spending $40 on new oil and scrimping on a $10 oil filter, and IMHO no excuse for doing this to a high quality vehicle like a Raptor.

Remember the filter is designed to remove contaminants from the engine, but it gets contaminated itself as it does so. When it's done its job, throw it away.

He was not asking if he should install a new filter, he asked if he should fill the filter with oil before he installs it

If you can get oil in the new filter its always good to do. Some filter locations will not allow you to add oil to the new filter since they mount horizontal...

My dad always beat that into my head that you should moisten the new filter seal with some oil for a better seal to the motor. I believe it makes some sense and kind of tradition for me siince he is gone now. I believe it is recommended by a lot of the filter companies also on line if you read installation instructions from there sites for the filters. What kind of oil are you using.

Yes. Run oil over that rubber ring on the toP of filter before you screw it on. It will aid it in sealing up after ******** it on. Screw the new filter on hand tight as well. No wrenching on it in the install. Fill the new filter if you can before installation.
Also check for leaks while running before you reinstall that little access panel to the filter.

Based on your original question, that appears to be what you were asking rather than putting oil in the filter

Ah! Sorry, Nold. And thanks, Willis.

The rubber sealing gasket needs to to have a film of oil on it prior to installation. I put a little oil on the threads, too, and always prime the filter, both on motorcycles as well as cars. Even if the filter is in sideways as it is in the Raptor, you can still add a fair amount of oil to the filter. If you roll the filter around in your hands after you've primed it, you can make sure the filter element is saturated with oil before it gets hit by oil pressure.
