When I was doing the rear suspension on my truck I took the bed off to make things easier. I get a lot of walkers coming by my house as there is a trail head just at the end of the street. One guy stopped and asked what I was doing, told me he was a mechanic and works on cars all the time. His hot tip was to use WD-40 and some steel wool on my brake discs to clean up the rust before I drove it again.
