Your lowrence works without an antenna it has an internal one
You're right! For some reason I assume the HDS-7 didn't come with an internal antenna. I need to wire it up and see how it works. Do I needing mapping software?

I have the same nav. You do not. You need a micro sd and the files on it.

I tried it outside of the truck. Also tried it in an open parking lot. I restored the unit to its defauts and updated the software. WAAS is off. GPS acquistion set to Auto. And still not acquring a signal after a reasonable amount of time. I mean I drove around for almost an hour trying to see if it would acquitre a signal. Read online several cases where a ribbon cable to the GPS antenna may not be connected. Ugh.

I believe your earlier thought was correct. According to treypal's post in the following thread, the HDS requires the external antenna. http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f12/best-offroad-gps-lowrance-elite-5m-hds-7-other-24613/
