We just recieved a decent amount of snow and this is the first real time getting to use 4x4. I noticed a whine in 4HI at all speeds and it seemed to come and go with the throttle (possibly a vacuum leak?). I give it gas, it was there, let off the gas and seemed to stop. Put it back in 2wd and seemed to go away. Everything seemed to work just fine, just this whine, humming noise. Its a 12, pretty much all stock.

Any ideas? I saw an old post and some people said it was normal but nothing was said about it being present/not present with throttle/no throttle. Or is that Torsen front differential just noisy?

Thanks

I just noticed this on my '12 yesterday and never made the noise before. I tried it today when it was warmer and didn't seem to be as loud.

My 2012 Raptor is grinding when shifting to 4x4 at any speed, except stopped. The grinding never stops. If I get in 4 hi from a stop, the 4x4 works perfectly with no noise.

Ford has replaced the vacuum system on both sides and today they replaced the transfer case. The problem is still there and they are stumped. Help!!

My 2013 was in the shop last week for the 4x4 whine. They said that their transmission guy drove the truck around in 4x4, heard the whine and said it was normal and was not something I needed to worry about.

If you followed my other post about this issue, you know that it was a faulty wire to the solenoid that controls the vacuum system for the IWE's. Took Ford 21 days to figure out the issue.

Did this fix the grinding problem you had or the whine? Both?
