If Ford releases a 2021 Raptor, then they must have another powertrain in the works to come after the TRX is released. No way they are going to release something new now and let Ram have the last say. The new generation F150 will be around for another five years (give or take). That is a long time to leave the Raptor unchanged after the Gen 2 went through very small changes over its production cycle.

I also think it is a little much for them to release the new F150, Bronco, and Raptor all within a year. But maybe because of COVID-19, they are putting all their chips on the table. We shall see.

Ford would be crazy not to do a ranger raptor here.

A solid competitor for the Chevy ZR2 would be a wise move. I sat in a ZR2 today, there isn’t any left elbow room for me with the seat all the way back and the seating position was low but otherwise it seems like a decent package. Sticker was just under $46K for the V6 gas engine model. I’m sure it would be better with an LS.

I can’t see them going V8 when the ecoboost and hybrid are their big push, but I could be wrong. Even if a V8 model became available to compete with the TRX I’d still want the V6 option to keep the fuel economy for a daily driver.

If a 2021 Raptor comes out, then it will likely be an electric motor paired with a V6. So I agree with you. What they do after that, I have no clue. But I don’t see them keeping the same powertrain for another 4-5 years.

The fuel economy is a non-issue for most—especially if they add a SC version. A V8 paired with a 10-speed isn’t going to be that different than a V6 with a 10-speed. I could care less about the fuel economy. I have owned 3 Gen 1s and bought two of them when fuel was $4-5 a gallon.

This is just my opinion, but logically one of two things happen.

1. No 2021 raptor, the prized raptors gain “value” and desire for a Raptor increases so when the next Raptor comes out dealerships make a killing on markups and resale values of used Raptors.

2. Ford makes a 2021 raptor that is the exact same as what we currently have minus the SCAB (to save in production costs).

I can all but guarantee Ford will not release their next Gen Raptor until Ram has shown all their cards with the TRX. That is just good business.

I hope option 1! But the Motor1 article seems legit given the source that they quote. Yes, I know Motor1 has been wrong in the past. But they were one of the first ones out with the new F150 video last night. I don’t see Ford making the new generation F150 along side the older generation F150 to continue the Raptor one more year, so I think option 2 is less likely.

Shut down the Raptor production and bring in a new Lightning. And bring the SVT badge back. WTF were they thinking. We all have Raps so they can stop making them.
