There are no pattern failures of the roof opening panel. On a forum, you’re only going to hear about the people that have an issue, not the hundreds of thousands of others that didn’t.

Respectfully, I believe that statement is not only incorrect, but very, very misleading. Yes , mine broke, and has required multiple visits to fix, and it’s still not correct, rattling like it’s a 15 year old Assembly rather than 3 years, but I am far from alone. Is it the majority of owners? No. Is it a very high percentage? Yes, and probably more than the rate of plastic oil pan failures.

The guide(?) mechanism, which surprisingly fragile, breaks, sometimes leaving pieces in the track causing the front panel to bounce back, or get stuck.

Again, plenty of folks buy it, use it and don’t have problems but quite a few people end up with a breakage and it’s a huge cash cow for Ford. On my 3rd or 4th visit they ended up
Ordering but not using a new track and they left it in my truck. The YouTube videos on how it breaks do it justice, it could be more robust.

Isn’t there already a TSB ? I know theres a diagnostic guide that frequently leads to replace tracks/guides, my stealership showed me their procedure - I want to think it was an SSM but I don’t quite remember and I didn’t get a copy.

Wish I could have had the option for a sunroof on my 2020 SCAB !! The one thing I don't love about my new truck, no sunroof. Still wonder why Ford did away with it on the SCAB only ???

Most likely due to demand/take rate. If an option isn't popular on a specific model, it is generally phased out.

In the early Jenny days you couldn’t swing a stick at a Rap without hitting one with the moonroof. Between that and the grotesquely overpriced stickers, that was on maybe 97% of dealer ordered trucks it was almost 3G’s added to the truck cost

It's still on almost all dealer ordered trucks. I had to work pretty hard to find one without. At least the price has dropped.

@smurfslayer This! I have known people across the F-series line up that have had problems with the sunroofs. Does that mean everyone has had a problem? No. But it is well known problem—hence why there is a TSB. @maxemus had it so bad on his new truck that he intentionally ordered another truck without a sunroof.

@Traffic22 yea, you can buy an extended warranty through Flood Ford ESP for cheap. But there is no way I am paying another $2k or so for a warranty on top of a used vehicle that cost $58k+. I bought my new 2020 802A SCREW in the low $60s in March.

Another plus of not having a sunroof is that my truck is noticeably quieter than a truck that has a sunroof. I can’t believe how quiet it is driving down the freeway at 90 mph.

@GordoJay yea, it all depends on the market. Florida had quite a bit of 802As without a sunroof. When I was in the market for my 2020, I found about 10 trucks across the state that had no sunroofs and were marked down to invoice pricing. Some dealerships intentionally order them that way...

My previous post was in regards to the entire roof opening panel requiring replacement. I should have been more specific.

Sorry to hear that you’re still having an issue; sounds like some poor workmanship by the dealer. There is a separate TSB for the rattle noise; it’s a relatively simple procedure that you can perform yourself. Send me a DM if you’re interested.

The issue that was identified was related to the glass panel brackets, which, as you mention, can crack or break apart. The TSB has the dealership replace both brackets, which come as a kit. The procedure also includes applying Krytox grease to the glass bracket cam slots.

There is no “cash cow” for the manufacturer when a component requires repair or replacement. It drives up warranty cost and decreases customer satisfaction. In many cases, the OE doesn’t even own the design; it’s provided by a supplier. It’s a lose-lose for all sides.

Yes, the TSB was released December of 2018. The TSB number is 20-2092.

Well I really appreciated everyone’s input. I picked up the 18 today they came down on the price and gave me more for my trade and didn’t have to make a 6 hr round trip so worked out! Really excited to enjoy the truck instead of looking at pictures online!
