Never thought I would make it to this forum but so glad I have.
I’ll make this as short as possible to share my conflict and looking to hear what others in the same situation have done or will do.
Ordered my 2016 Platinum exactly as I wanted and made a few mods that I enjoy. Figured I would have this truck forever and would never need a truck again. Pay it off and move on...
Recently the Raptor bug got to me and my plan fell apart.
My wife surprises me for my birthday recently to say go get that Raptor you’ve been talking about!
So I start my research- I visit a couple of dealers and I get the $2000 over MSRP then we talk some then they offer MSRP.
Go to the next dealer they offer MSRP but don’t have the truck I like but will find one.
Today dealer 2 calls and says he just received allocation and can order what I want for below MSRP. He wouldn’t say how much below until I build it.
Asked how about at invoice and he said maybe.
So the conflict is do I wait for the 2020’s to be announced as there may be a design refresh and V8 option or do I jump on the 2019 I can order at below MSRP? I already prepared myself to wait till the 20’s are announced but maybe I should move now?
I know I’m opening myself up for criticism but I respect many of your thoughts as I’ve been reading many threads here.
Thanks!

No one really knows what 2020 will bring but I’d try and wait to see what they announce, then make the decision. The deals on 2019 will likely be better at that time as well

On the other hand, it’s easy to get stuck in the trap of rationalizing to wait for the next generation for what it might be. The next generation of every vehicle will always be a little faster, more features, different looks, new tech, etc. These gen 2 trucks are so good I promise you won’t be disappointed. You just have to decide if waiting for any possible changes is worth it to you.

I know it sounds crazy but 2020’s are just around the corner and they are almost guaranteed to be a refreshed body style and new interior. Let’s say you wait 4-5 months for the new body style and you don’t like it. Well it’s a win win because A. you actually get the option to choose and make an educated decision between both body styles side by side vs speculation and B. You can pick up a 2019 body style at a significant discount if you choose to go that route. That’s what happens when new body styles come out. Just my thoughts.

I go back and forth- go enjoy the truck as soon as possible as they are amazing right now!
Or...do I wait it out and have no regrets if there is a significant change/refresh?
Can I find what later this year? Will I be able to have one built late in the year due to allocation limitations?
What happens to the amount I get for my trade, will it diminish significantly when the 20’s are right around the corner?
Appreciate the recommendations guys!

Last day to spec change on the 19's is 7-25. If you want to order a 19, you should at least 2 months before then. That's what my salesman suggested on the 18's and that's what I did. You get too close to the end and some things are no longer available and you are SOL. On the other hand, order banks for the 20's open on 7-17, so info on the 20 should be available around that time.

I had the same choice recently. I decided to go now. A few of the reasons:

- I don't like buying the first year of any vehicle with significant changes like an engine. I believe it takes a couple of years to get things worked out in new versions.

- Goods deals now on 19's. new updates or redesign = no deals in the first year or two. MSRP or higher. I won't pay MSRP.

- You aren't promised tomorrow.. live life now. Of course this philosophy does not work for everything in life... this is just a truck

- If you buy the 19 right.. you will not take a bit hit when you go to sell as these hold their value. Same thing I did with my F250

Either way you go it's a win-win! Great issue to have. Congrats.

I would offer $500 over invoice to the dealer who told you he can order you a 2019 Raptor, order exactly what you want, wait a few months, and enjoy your new Raptor. Have them give you a trade quote for your 2016 F150, trade F150 when new Raptor arrives.

I've bought 3 Raptors exactly as I described above.
