Hey Everybody.
New to the site and hopeful future Raptor owner. I just wanted to get an opinion of when I should look for a 2014 or wait for the 2017? I ask because I have a lease coming due and intend to buy the truck. But I worry about what someone may have done to a used one or what problems may arise with a new one. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Sorry if this has been covered before.

First Howdy and welcome! You came to the right place to get info. Go to the Prospective Raptor Owners threads, go to Looking at a Raptor.... need some advice. 2014Ruby Red has a list on there, also browse thru those threads, lots of opinions and info. As for me, 2014 all the way! It is simple, I got a 2014 for the motor, I wanted the last of the 6.2. However, look on this site under Gen 2, there are folks who have reasons to buy the 2017. Good luck, in choosing, and if you go 2014, finding a good one as they are drying up.

My personal opinion, go with the 2017. Why? You will probably pay around the same price for a used 2014 as you would a brand new 2017. Why by a used and potentially abused truck when you can have something new for around the same price.

Yes, a used 2014 SCREW with lowish miles (30k) is going for $50-$55k. They are holding their value. Now you could go with a 2014 when the 2017 comes out because the price MIGHT drop but that is not for sure. Personally I like the new tech in the 2017 and want a new truck instead of potentially inheriting someone elses problems.

Wait for the 2017 to come out and test drive them both to see which one you prefer. Personally, I love my 2014 with the 6.2L V8 however nobody really knows at this point how well the 2017 EB will perform so I'd rather withhold my judgment until I actually have the chance to drive one. Additionally, I wouldn't be scared away from taking a chance on a used 14. Sure some may have be used and abused but with an MSRP new of $50k to $60k I think alot of these trucks are being babied and well taken care of. I know I baby mine. I can't afford not to. In the end it's going to come down to which one you like the best. Pretty exciting time for you I think to be able to choose between 2 awesome and uniquely different trucks! Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies! yeah testing both would be ideal but based on the dwindling nature of the used ones and the possible rush on the new ones plus my lease tie frame, that may not be in the cards. Good to see their is faith in the used ones still, I was worried that most used would have and old owner who tried to jump their previous car with it. I do really like the tech in the 2017 for sure hopefully Ford doesn't choose to up the base price to 60K out of the gate! heh. Thanks again for all the information!

If you can wait for the 2017, I would wait, unless you are planning to modify the rig. The nice/bad thing about the 2017 is it is turbo charged from the factory, so you can't reasonably super charge it and it would be silly to do a motor swap (you all know who I am talking about). I decided to go for the 2014 because I want a lot more horse power than stock. It will be hard to do on a 2017.

Most Raptor owners... like 80% will never take their Raptor off-road. These are also the same people who will trade in their 2013/2014 creampuffs with very low miles for a '17 so you don't always have to worry about off-road abuse.

What nobody knows right now is how will the prices react. No way to tell until the '17 Raptors hit the lots. The prices you will see for new Raptors will make the Gen1 Raptors look like a bargain.

Gotta see how much the 17's are, if you on somewhat of a budget.

If you are not in a rush, just wait till the 17's come out. See if you can test drive both and go from there.

Personally, I think the 3.5TT will be a good engine for the truck, other than the exhaust note, but that's not a deal breaker to me.

The transmission is brand new, so it's TBD how that'll hold up, react, or handle extra power over stock. Shouldn't be an issue, but just some things to think about.
