My BIL has 2 Hertz 250D subs and they hit DAMN hard in a non-ported box. I'd venture to say that a single one in a properly ported box would be a nice setup.

I'd stay away from Ports if you want a tight clean bass sound. If you listen to rock or whatever and you want a clean bass guitar or kick drum, then sealed is a much better choice. If you listen to hip-hop/rap/dubstep and just want really loud bass, then by all means, port them.

Unless of course you're getting DD's, then your only option is to port those suckers.

Right good add. Sealed is for tight punchy bass like a bass drum. Ported is for loud ominous bass that seems like it doesn't end it just fades out

I will have some one of these days...when I don't have a truck. My buddy ripped out the back seat of his '05 F-150 Screw and put in 2 15" DD's downfired and ported with a 2500 watt JBL amp. Jesus Christ.

Check it out here:
subs for lennie - YouTube

They sounded way better than in the video. But that just shows you how much they would shake shit up. He eventually got tired of not having a backseat (turning a crew cab into a coupe) and did a blow through. And yes, he did get a screen, but at the time of the video his screen was backordered. And the reason, the CD's skip is because they couldn't handle all the shaking from the subs hahaha.

Yes, non-ported is the way I prefer to go, but my theory was/is that if the OP is going for an absolutely nuts setup it's easier to get it with a port. It definitely depends on the music style though. A lot of my music requires a non-ported box to get any type of clarity (double bass in mudvayne for example).

Here's an interesting read:

Enclosure Dilemma

I love my big ported box with 2 8" front firing JLs. But I also like balance to my music and punch to my low end.

Now yer talking... Ill take to properly powered/sealed 8's or 10's over 15s any day... there is a point when it becomes STUPID.... that looks clean and im assuming sounds full too! NICE
